At this point no email and no letter in mail. Given up hope since
@irishdude said ppl from el paso TX received it and i am from there
Good luck to the rest

Hey guys, can anyone please tell me: If I get some additional outside scholarships, can I use them to pay for my EFC? Will those scholarships affect how much Gates would give me? Thanks!

@missybitsy: Are you a gates scholar? If so, it explains how the fin. aid works in the packet thingy. Gates does not pay for your EFC, but is used as an unmet need scholarship. So yes, you can use them.

Ok thank you! Yes I’m a Gates Scholar but I’m still confused after reading the packet because in the example, one of the items that Gates uses to consider award amount is “Private Scholarship” so I was worried that Gates would reduce the amount of money they’re giving me if I have other outside scholarships.

If you havent received your letter yet, but others have in your area, don’t lose all hope yet! Im in Washington state (across the country from APIASF) and I got mine ob Monday. Another girl didn’t get her’s until a day later, so it may depend on where you live, even in the same area.

@ sophiathoughts That would brighten up my mood, but unfortunately I haven’t received an email yet, while all the scholars apparently got theirs today. :(

same here Alain everyone got emails at my school and one got it mondya and the other tuesday yet i got nothing today

Hey everyone!! I have been following this forum for quite a while now. I am Hispanic and live in SC and I am a Gates Scholar ^^. To those who have recieved the scholarship, many congratulations from me and my family, this scholarship will make a huge difference in your college career, especially since you don’t have to think about financial aid.

To those who haven’t recieved any notifications yet, THERE IS STILL TIME!!! Yes, waiting can be cruel and fustrating, but whatever happens, be proud of how far you have come. To those who are nervous about your gpa’s or efc’s, YOU MADE THE REQUIREMENTS!!! Numbers doesn’t make the person, and I am DAMN SURE that GMS notices that, that’s why they ask for these numerous, mentally exhausting essays. My uw gpa is not as high as others on this forum, trust me, however, by being the person I am, I was able to get this far, and you will too. As many people have posted, God has a plan for all of us. If a door is closed, a window will open, and if that doesn’t happen, God will make a crack in the wall for us to chip at it and get through. This experience, no matter the outcomes, will make you a better and stronger person. I had lost much hope after seeing so many people getting it and posting their stats (which are HIGHLY commendable, I am just critical about myself), but I recieved the package today-to my utter surprise. What I am getting at is that everything happens for a reason. Don’t put more stress on yourself just because the mail/e-mail is being a slowpoke, or you being intimidated by others. PLEASE HAVE FAITH!!! I almost lost hope, and because of that, I got very sick with migraines. Don’t be like me, thats not fun, it hurts >_<. I am praying that all of you get it, and if it doesn’t happen, that you will get the equivalent in other types of scholarships and grants. Everyone here deserves at least that much.

Nicky424, did you get an email?

@ nicky424 very nice words. May I ask from what part of sc are you from? I am also a hispanic from SC. I just want to see if there is still any hope for me. Thanks anyways for your comment.

@Caligirl2011- Yeah, I recieved it about an hour ago.
@gavame- thank you =), Yeah, I am from Spartanburg. The package was postmarked April 16th (why a day later, your guess is as good as mine) but if anything, I hope that you will recieve something by friday…scratch that, tomorrow. =)

Hey everyone! I’m a Native American female from NC and I found out today
I am so thankful and humbled by the thought of being chosen from 23,000 applicants! Congrats to everyone else who has been selected as a scholar and if you haven’t heard yet, THERE IS STILL HOPE! Prayer is the key

P.S. - I have another Native American male that found out he received the scholarship yesterday. We have another Native American female waiting to hear at our school and the three of us were the only finalists from our school. Again, good luck to everyone!

You guys give me hope! So I guess it is true that good news can continue to come :)

Wow, I am in GA and if you guys got it today maybe I will get it tomorrow. THANKS FOR GIVING US HOPE!

elenamarieeee did you get an email from AIGC today about gates?

Ok I have tried to be civil on this forum, but I am absolutely disgusted at the way this whole thing is being handled! I mean can no one even bother to send an email to the students who did not get it!? I am pretty sure I did not get it, since other kids in GA got a letter but I received nothing. Fine, but can’t I even get some sort of notification!? There are people agonizing over this thing still believing that there is hope, only to find their inbox empty and nothing in the mail. Why are you people torturing us!? At least let us know that we have been rejected so that we may move on! We are still breathing here and deserve some form of consolation, or has GMS simply forgotten about the other students who worked there fingers to the bone writing essays and sending in all of that pesky information. I called the office multiple times and they keep telling me that I will be notified soon, and I told them that other kids from my area received notification so would it be safe to assume that I did not get it, but they just repeated “Oh you should get something soon”. SOON!!! The nerve of those incompetent aholes! Some of us who can not afford College are dying here! This whole process has been nothing but heart ache and I wouldn’t wish this feeling of tantalizing hope on my worst enemy. GMS you have officially sent me off the deep end due to your utter lack of consideration, and I wish you the worst!

PS: Dear Bill Gates, please fire who ever is in charge of organizing notifications. They are doing a horrible job and should burn in hell!!!

hey instead of cursing out the system that is providing with the oppurtunity of a full ride, you should curse the usps system. If you havent noticed all the packets were postmarked on the 15th-16th. Its the usps system that is delaying it… trust me i am frustrated and in the same boat but patience is key. There is a letter with your name on it and u should just wait for it…

@indians I don’t think the ups system is to blame for there not being any email notifications. Face it, the GMS notification system sucks!

My hope has been loss…

I called 2 days ago and they told me they sent a letter. Yet no email, so must not be a recipient.

You are right. We shouldn’t just be forgotten about it, after all, we too worked hard for this. It is really painful to know that you didn’t get it, but at the same time still hoping that you did (if that makes any sense). Don’t get me wrong, I am super thankful for the amazing opportunity I was given, but I (and all the others waiting) don’t deserve the agonazing waiting process…

p.s @nicky424, thank-you. One last question, did you get an e-mail from gms?
