Gates Millenium Scholarship 2011-2012

I would like to do pharmacology & toxicology as my graduate major. Do you think Gates will pay for it? Here is the website: [Pharmacology and Toxicology - MS , 2010 - 2011 Graduate Catalog — U OF L Graduate Catalog](<a href=“Academic Catalogs < University of Louisville”>Academic Catalogs < University of Louisville)
It’s called “Master of Science in Pharmacology & Toxicology”

@missybitsy: I’m sure they do…have you joined the facebook group? there is a representative named Larry Griffith able to answer this question better than i can…try to log in:)

@expectopatronum On the scholar website, which was made available last night, GMS states in the FAQ section that they will cover whatever the school allows for study abroad. Which means it’s up to your school whether or not plane tickets are allotted.

But then again, you should always call GMS when in doubt :)

to those who did not receive the scholarship, please DO NOT GIVE UP!!!
apply to as many scholarships as you can whether they are big or small. i applied to over 50 scholarships and got rejected to 44 of them. i was blessed to receive this one and was in utter shock. please do not give up on your dreams, whatever they may be. when one opportunity closes, many others open :)

For future reference – Can someone tell me names of other larger scholarships. Unfortunately my son did not make it as a Gates Scholar but received a good financial aid package to a great school. But I still have a 10th grader who will be applying in 2012 so I am preparing. Thanks!

My son received his “GMS” ! on the 23rd.
We live in Idaho. You should all be proud of yourself either way!
~ troddle ~ I am sorry you needed to vent like that, unbecoming characteristics that
they are not looking for.
One thing I agree with other posts… students really do need to be informed by end of
March , at the latest. Colleges are needing deposits and to have this financial burden set for 3-4 colleges and needing to get reimbursed if they chose another college… they have a deadline to get reimbursed and this is cutting it WAY To CLOSE !
Like most of you, my son was waiting for confirmation to decide which college he would attend… not meaning to go to the most expensive, just to make the best decision for him and financially for our family.
And yes… we cried cheers of JOY and still do when I tell people how proud I am of my son for working so hard. Completing this scholarship app ,in itself , is a tribute to you all of your hard work and I commend you!

So somebody who doesn’t have to give you anything gives you money you didn’t expect (but maybe hoped) to get and then once you have the money you say to them, “Thanks, but you really should have let me have this money sooner, when it was convenient for me.”

Is it me, or does than seem a bit ungrateful and entitled? I’m 'jus sayin.

This is such an amazing scholarship and an incredible opportunity. I bet there are plenty of students who didn’t get it who’d be way happy right now if somebody called them up and said they were a Gates Scholar today.

Gates is about helping other people because we got helped. I hope the new students who got this (and maybe some of their parents) aren’t joining the rest of us scholars with these attitudes.

It seems to me that superdragonfly was just trying to share her opinion. There is nothing wrong with that. We scholars should not deny or be critical of each others views on various subject matters. She obviously really cares for her son and takes pride in his accomplishments. Although I may not agree with her opinions, i can understand why she would have those views and respect them.

I’m almost sorry that I was chosen as a scholar. Ever since I received that big white envelope in the mail, my fellow classmates as well as others have turned against me in a way. They’re jealous, and that’s understandable, but I don’t see why it should affect relationships and friendships. I mean, I didn’t brag or anything, but they still seem to dislike me for earning such a great honor. Anyone else experience anything like this?

hate to say it, but they were not friends if they turned against you when a wonderful thing happened to you. they should be happy for you, not jealous or angry. that just goes to show you that they weren’t your friends in the first place.

On to our next chapter in life…

a bit sad not to see people posting as much as they once did earlier this year! thanks for all support on this post; it has been so helpful! well best of luck to everyone whether they received it or not, and i hope to hear from you all again.

I understand what some of you are saying. I was rejected from the gates scholarship but I got the Daniels fund scholarship!! It’s kinda like gates. It’s a supplemental scholarship so it pays for everything after grants and other scholarships have been deducted from the total cost of school. Plus we get free laptops ( I chose a mac : D) and a wireless printer. And some of my friends get mad when I talk about it. But I also do realize that ive been talking about it a lot lol. I’m just so grateful. When I got rejected from gates I didn’t know where I was going to get the money from so I’m thankful.

Thank you so much for your support. Your words really touched me I have considered taking the opportunity to sign up for gms but now I am certainly signing up thanks for your inspiration. I wish you great luck in your future. May God bless

Can’t wait to apply!!!

Hi Roseabell!

There are many other great scholarship funds that you should look into! I’m a rising sophomore as well as a GMS 2010 ( I also got a lot of other great scholarships ).

Send me over a message if you want to know about the other scholarships and the process i took in applying to them.

Does anybody know when the scholarship goes up for the Class of 2012 seniors? Or if they don’t know, could they give the essay questions so people can start working on the essays.
