All of my documents are still pending as well. I’m scared now.
@klingon97 What are the other criteria?
@Iamsobusynow if you go on to the student portal and click view status it, then click on the box to the furthest left on the page(i forgot what it said).
@Iamsobusynow opps i didn’t see your other post!
@2ne1islife , have you contacted them? If you know any information, please do let me know.
Anyone know around when we will hear the news.
@amanmibra Decisions will be released in mid-April. I am guessing we will hear the news between April 15 and April 22.
Thank you!
Does anybody know the criteria that they are now currently judging the finalists on?
@amanmibra, I think last year they heard it on April 17th.
Does anyone know when we should receive the email to notify all finalists if the received the scholarship or not? I was asking because I never got my letter in the mail confirming that I had been selected as a finalist.
@CuteyBrown It is weird that you have not yet received the letter. From what I read about previous years, correspondence about scholar status is mainly done through letters. Correct me if I’m wrong. You should definitely call the Gates Millenium Scholars Program.
@Ifeanyi1 I didn’t get my letter through the mail, but I did get it through email. I was able to sign into the Student Portal and submitted all of my documents and they have all been verified. So I don’t know if they accidentally sent it to the wrong address or what. Are you also a finalist? If so did you get your letter via mail?
@CuteyBrown I am a finalist. I was informed via letter of such the day before I received an email. Finalists should receive both an email and a letter, so make sure that GMS has the correct address information for you.
Does “document received and verified” means that it is verified? Lol. I’m so ridiculous for not knowing this.
@Iamsobusynow Congratulations! This means that all your documents have been verified. :-bd
Is there any evidence that someone with a higher unweighted GPA has an advantage over someone with a lower GPA during the finalist->winner selection process, solely because of the GPA factor?
@jadeus The only thing that finalists will ever learn is whether or not they were selected as Scholars. You will never find out your ranking or exactly what determined that ranking. However, the GMSP makes clear that you do not have to be an academic superstar to be selected as a Scholar. You just have to have a verified minimum GPA of 3.3. There is no such thing as a single factor that gives anyone an advantage.
@northernAZ what else can you tell us while we wait for the results. Will we be emailed the decision first ? Or snail mail ? Both ?
@pleaseacceptme99 All finalists will receive notification by regular mail. The good news (and related documents) will arrive in a large package. The disappointing news will arrive in a regular-size envelope. These notifications are sent out by each of the four GMSP partner organizations, which are located in different parts of the country. That means that the mail will not necessarily arrive on the same day for all finalists. I do not know if everyone also gets an email. If you did not receive the hard copy letter that was sent to all finalists, I would definitely recommend making sure that the partner organization has your correct mailing address.
