**GATES MILLENNIUM 2016****

@Ifeanyi1 engineering, so Stanford is the obvious choice. I want him to get the feel of each one before deciding. I’ve heard GWU is a great school. What major do you plan to pursue?

@jjuar16 I think you’re ok, but it’s time to start nagging, courtesy be darned!!

@Ifeanyi1 @Alamom thanks guys! I’ll go to her first thing Monday morning

@jjuar16 You’re welcome! :slight_smile:

@Alamom Oh, ok. They are all good schools, so any one of them is fine. As of now, I plan to pursue Biological Sciences. However, I may switch to Public Health, Emergency Health Services Management, or Dietetics, with a preference for the most hands-on major. My ultimate goal is to become a doctor, so my major does not matter, but even then, I am still indecisive. Right now, I am looking into the possible college credits for each institution to better decide.

@Ifeanyi1 I’m considering UMD as well :slight_smile:

@supyall2020 Cool! We are potential Terps! What other schools are you considering? I like UMD, especially considering it is like a 10-minute drive from my house :)), but it has too many undergraduates for my liking. Luckily, the Honors Program makes it possible for me to be in smaller classes.

@Ifeanyi1 Virginia Tech and RPI as well but UMD’s CS Department appeals to me. I’d like to be near DC which will be nice.

@supyall2020 Great Schools! UMD is a really good school for computer science. I recommend UMD if you can afford it, but be prepared for hard work.

I’m deciding between Harvard UCLA or Stanford. Harvard and Stanford will meet all my financial need without loans so that’s definitely a plus. (Technically I wouldn’t even need this scholarship there). But UCLA is my number 1 school I want to be in SoCal I love the campus I love the vibe but the financial aid isn’t the best there. /:

@pleaseacceptme99 Great Schools! I hope you receive the Gates Millenium Scholarship, so you can commit to UCLA. I can’t believe we will be notified in a few weeks. :open_mouth:

@Ifeanyi1 thank you :slight_smile:
I hope we both get it !
I can’t wait the anticipation is REAL! Lol

@pleaseacceptme99 Don’t forget that Gates will cover your work study, if applicable. My son’s needs are pretty well covered, but I’d rather he didn’t work since those schools are so rigorous! Also, don’t forget about grad school for certain fields of study.

@Alamom you’re right ! Not having to do work study would be a huge help.

@pleaseacceptme99 You’re welcome! Yes, I pray we receive this scholarship. I hope award notifications come out soon.

@CuteyBrown Thanks for all the likes on my posts lol! :slight_smile:

@Ifeanyi97 Lol. You’re welcome! :slight_smile:

I’m going to TWU to work on getting a Doctorate in Physical Therapy!

Two more weeks, guys!

@pleaseacceptme99 While Harvard has a very generous financial aid program, it will expect you to undertake work study and the amount will go up each year. Gates replaces this with a grant. Gates will also cover expenses that Harvard does not necessarily meet in full, i.e. travel, health insurance etc. For the average “full need” Harvard student, GMS contributes about $5900 a year for a freshman. Plus Gates gives you conferences, mentoring and graduate school financial aid.

GMS sounds so awesome. I can’t really decide between UC Merced or UC Berkeley. Lol.

Does anyone know why my fafsa efc is about 500 dollars but some schools are offering me parent loans of 30,000 +
