EVERYONE THAT GETS AN EMAIL. PLEASE SAY YOUR RACE AND WHAT STATE YOU LIVE IN. That’ll be very helpful!
OMG CONGRATS! Im seriously dying of nervous.
@barbequeribs Congratulations!

Absolutely nervous.
@barbequeribs What did it say in the subject line? And congrats!!!
Besides winnowing out the ineligible, is there is any other winnowing after the finalist selections? If so, does anyone know the criteria that is used?
@jadeus There would just about have to be. If they name 2,000 finalists, yet take only half that number there will most likely be eligible candidates not named scholars. I’ve heard applications are scored, so eligible finalists would be assessed based on the grading criteria. That said, there is certainly some subjectivity involved, such as distribution across regions. I think there is a set number for each race as well.
I received a physical letter notifying me of my finalist status. In the letter they also said that emails will be sent out on March 3rd (so tmrw).
I’m from NYC
@Najubhai Asian finalist? I only ask because it’s weird that one finalist gets an email while the other gets a letter first. They’re on to us and keeping us guessing!
@Alamom Yes!
Are these emails to finalists and non-finalists?
Do non finalists get letters? Or just an email?
To all who have gotten their finalist email notifications, congratulations!
@jadeus, from what I remember reading in “2013”. You have already been ranked. Now it’s a matter of meeting the financial criteria and hoping you are high enough on the “ladder” to receive the scholarship. Good luck to all of you!
@vivinicole Thank you! Also, the subject is “GMS Finalist Memo and Documents.”
Also, the email mentioned to me that a letter was sent to me on April 29. I’m from the CNMI, so any mail typically takes a week or two longer to arrive than it does on the U.S. mainland. I’m sorry about that. I’m so used to tracking mail for weeks that I didn’t occur to me.
