Gates Millennium Scholarship 2013-2014

@GabrielM so you received an email saying to “Log In” then you found out you were a finalist?

@greenisin that is the question I want to know as well, this crap is making me anxious.

If you’re looking for a clue as to whether or not if you’re a finalist, you can call 1-877-690-4677.

“When looking at posts from previous years, it seems everyone who got it received an email and a letter with followup information. Some people received a call. Some people figured out they received it earlier by calling the number and hearing a message saying they had to submit 5 documents to Gates.”

And as larryle2 said, “Sorry, but if anyone received an email asking you to check your status then most likely you were not selected.”

Cynthia808’s e-mail subtitle was “Gates Millennium Scholar Finalist”

you get the idea from all of these, but you can confirm with the GMSP application, once you can actually log in, though if your account is locked you likely won’t be able to for a little while

Account is locked, and when I called that number earlier it asked me for my 9 digit ID. Which I do not know.

"SUBJECT: Gates Millennium Scholars Finalist (Please look out for this memo plus other document enclosures listed below, which was sent to you via US mail on March 3rd. The enclosures listed may also be found linked from the document upload site or requested from your GMS administrating office at the phone number listed.)

You have been selected to advance to the second phase of the Gates Millennium Scholars (GMS) scholarship selection process. To verify your eligibility for further consideration, we must receive the following documents no later than 11:59 PM of Monday, April 7, 2014 (documents received after April 7th will not be considered):
"

That’s what my email says, for reference.

I was selected as a finalist. I received the same e-mail that was posted in the post directly above mine.

I am a finalist for gms, what is the process like for finalists?

I guess I didn’t make it then, no Idea how I am gonna afford college now lol.

YES! Got my Finalist Email today ~ So Excited (African American ~ Michigan!)

Same here kingnabeel12. Sorry to all those who didn’t get finalist status. Congrats to those who did though, nice job on your essays. Time to reflect on life.

I bid all thee farewell.

No I did not recieve any email. My friend, who Is not a finalist , however, did get one.

Gabriel instilled some hope in me, however, I am still unable to log on.

@GabrielM So I’m not confused (lol), you are a finalist however you did not receive any email or letter in the mail? …It could be possible that your email and/or letter is delayed

also I think only the UNCF released their information right now and the others could be released later this week.

Got my letter today too! I couldn’t find any information about this, but how good is being a finalist? I mean, of course it’s a good thing! But do I still have quite a ways to go in terms of competition, or have they really narrowed down the amount of people?

Also, do they take into account your degree of minority/financial need? I know I qualify for the scholarship, but it’s only just barely, both in terms of ancestry and income. I’m worried that they’ll put me up against somebody who’s significantly “more” of a minority and choose them instead.

I have not gotten an email but my application status says Finalist. So happy!

Didn’t get in, I guess they don’t look at academics and ECs as much as colleges, Good luck to all who became finalists.

Update: just received finalist email

Non select…found out today…Congrats to all finalists! Fingers crossed to everyone still waiting to hear!

@asportking based off the documents they’re asking us to submit, i think they’re just gonna look at grades and financial need.
