<p>@aleonard What grade are you in? The Application Process for this year is over for high school seniors and graduates, but next year’s application opens this fall.</p>
<p>I’m an African American from Michigan. I want to attend the University of Michigan Ann Arbor and major in Computer Science. I like all colors!!!</p>
<p>Question: Is the final screening more merit based or financial need based?
My grades or gpa are pretty average (3.4) compared to the gpa’s of GM winners.
However, my financial need is really great so I’m hoping that will kind of forgive my really low gpa?
Any thoughts?</p>
<p>@emjkitty Also, when you make it to the finalist stage, they rank you within your ethnic group, 1-500. In order to win you have to be ranked 1-250. So, to increase your rank, anyone ahead of you has to be disqualified because a) they don’t qualify for the Pell grant, b) their GPA is below the minimum(I don’t remember if it was 3.2 or 3.3), c) they haven’t been accepted into a college, etc. They don’t want you to be the perfect person with a 4.0, they just want you to meet their criteria. My guidance counselor said that once you get to the finalist stage, it’s USUALLY just a matter of verifying that you told the truth in your application. :)</p>
<p>@rhythmandbible I am crossing my fingers almost everyday in hoping it’s just a verification stage. I just really hope financial aid and essays trumps any other factor.</p>

<p>Oh God, I’m so nervous! Past threads show most notifications were postmarked April 15th and most that were selected got the packages on April 17th.
That said we have 15 days. Ugh, the suspense! </p>

<p>Hey you guys, if you have all Y’s on the REVIEWED box in your document page, does that mean they successfully verified that you are telling the truth and that you’re good to go? </p>
<p>@D0omrider Not really. I don’t think it means anything other than that they saw the documents and that it was verified they were completed. </p>
<p>@D0omrider I believe it simply means you have submitted the correct documents, but I’m not certain. </p>
<p>Super random I know but what kind of majors are most of trying to pursue?
