General Airline Travel Discussion including trip insurance

Exactly. Every single day I feel like we’re living in the latest publication of the Onion!

Nailed it!

Apparently, too many people fell for it that the news sites had to edit their headlines to clarify it was a joke!

So glad to hear it and yay on me getting fooled since I didn’t even remember it was April Fools Day! Guess I need to finish reading to the end - bad on me!

That was an April fools joke!! As I see several have noted.

Have also ended up in Japanese hospital. Care was excellent. With the extra charge to put my xrays on a CD for my doctor at home, it was $70!

Having had a conversation with my PT recently - and her line of work exposes her to more of this than I see – I suspect that the real value of travel insurance is in catastrophic cases. For example, a car accident and the need for special transport home (God forbid!) For that, I can definitely see why it would make sense.

Ugh!!! I dawdled getting trip insurance, because our trip isn’t until September, and now I can’t find trip insurance that covers pre-existing conditions, because I didn’t purchase within 14 days. Seeing as we go to the doc for every last thing, if something happened to us medically, it’s very possible it would be something we’d have been seen for before.

Does anyone have any ideas? We’re not on Medicare, and going to Africa, so we need something that covers evacuation, terrorism, and medical emergencies. I’m thinking that maybe there are annual plans that might cover for trip cancellation and waive the pre-existing conditions, but I can’t find an annual or single trip plan. All because I put a lousy 1K deposit on the trip!

Some will waive pre-existing with 21 day window (not 14)

How expensive is medical care in your trip destinations, even if you self pay?

Seems that any medical care outside the US would be much less expensive than in the US.

Did you check your credit card? Some do have some sorts of insurance.

If I were taking a trip to Africa (which I did), I would at least want medivac to a place where medical care was good.

Problem is, right now I’m at a 26 day window, I didn’t even realize there was any window. :see_no_evil_monkey:

Good question, I have no idea. And I don’t know why my insurance wouldn’t cover it out of network, anyways. I guess I’m more concerned about if I have to cancel the trip ahead of time for some medical issue.

I have the same problem with our Italy trip. Call trip insurance store . Com and ask Steve your question. If you only paid the 1K now, you can likely still get it when you pay for the rest of the trip. There is also an annual plan that would be good if we lived in many states, but not where I live.

They have a bit of insurance, but it’s really not very comprehensive. Definitely thinking that we want at least 500K evacuation insurance. I also added weather and terrorism, along with Covid. That all seems easy to get, but the pre-existing one is the problem.

Are you USAA members? We used their Travel Insured International USAA Perks coverage for our Sydney extension after our New Zealand trip. I think we did buy it within 14 days of booking our flights though. But it’s worth checking out?

We dumped USAA after 25 years, when they declared that the amount required to rebuild our house had magically jumped up 700K in just five years, which was total bull. But thanks for the suggestion!

That may be the way we end up going, but I was hoping for one policy to cover everything.
