Was your airfare booked as part of your cruise package?
She booked it separately, IIRC. Its been a while so canāt recall for sure, but I think she booked it separately??? Came from 4 different airports. No one flew frontier!
If we fly out of our local airport itās usually American or United. We havenāt had problems. My daughter had problems with Southwest due to fog which was complicated because they only offer one nonstop flight a day from our airport to hers.
I think Delta is coming back to the local airport with a connection through Salt Lake. That should open up more options to fly local. Delta has come in and out of our airport.
Still trying to remember if the flights were booked as part of the cruise. I do recall that one of the attendees was going to be flying form a different location so the TA had to change his flight. And I was wrong- we flew form 5 different airports.
Iām impressed you are close enough to that many people to go on vacation with at one time by compatibility and affordability!
You can also buy travel insurance that will catch you up with the cruise if there is an issue.
My friend and her mother went on a cruise and had the cruiseline do the air travel. It was really bad, having them fly to Seattle and bus to Vancouver and the connections were tight. No one wants to miss the first few days of the cruise. Friend said it was expensive and inconvenient. Most of the cruise experts advise to fly in the day before and enjoy the departure city.
Last trip we were cruising out of LA and we decided to risk it as if our flight was cancelled the day of the cruise, there are 6 airports in the LA areas and we could have found another flight to get us there on time. Our flight worked out perfectly. The next day, when we were already on the cruise, I saw on the news that SW out of Denver had a ground hold that morning. Talk about dodging a bullet! (But it was only for an hour so everything would have fine that morning too).
The one cruise we went on, Hās HS classmates planned activities for several days prior to cruise and we visited his relatives in Seattle after the cruise. We made all our own air and ground reservations. Everything was on time and as scheduled.
We took my DHās family (12 of us) on a cruise to celebrate DHās birthday. Turns out DIL was pregnant so couldnt go, so older s had his college roommate come!
If you book your air through Princess cruises, their website lets you pick your own flights. Even if your travel agent handled the original cruise booking, you can still select the flights yourself and they have flexible options where you can reserve but not pay until the final payment is due for your cruise. Thanks. It was 7 years ago and the TA handled it. Gears are a little rusty now!
Iāve always booked our flights directly with airlines when possible, except for tours when you are escorted from your home airport and then back to your home airport.
For those who may be interested:
Heading out to Kauai soon!! Any pointers?
I believe there was/is a big fire in area of Waimea canyon. you may wish to get an update from someone on Kauai to see about adjusting any plans.
Hereās an article, but itās several days old.
#1 - everything moves very slowly, from traffic to everything else. Hawaii time is a real thing. Bring patience.
Many places are still short handed so posted hours may not be accurate. Call in advance if thereās something/somewhere you really want to go.
For a mellow beach experience Anini Beach had a bunch of great spots with shade trees & very calm water.
Pack lunch every day that you go exploring and stop wherever youāre inspired to picnic.
Even if you havenāt made reservations to go to Keāe Beach, drive all the way and at the guard house simply ask if you may turn around. The drive is wonderful. Make a stop in Hanalei town and check out the cute village. Slow Yourself Down coffee house is a treat and you get to keep the glass cups!
If youāre interested in Napali coast, the Hanalei Charter sunset raft tour was incredible. A mom & pop with the nicest people working.
Definitely check out Waimea Canyon. Gorgeous.
The lighthouse was very interesting. Youāll need a reservation. If you have a National Park America the Beautiful pass it works for the lighthouse. Just pay $1 online to reserve a time slot.
Reach out during your trip if youād like more ideas/suggestions.
Most of all have fun! ![]()
Thanks! My son has actually packed us full of scheduled activities (helicopter tour, north island hike (with shuttle pass), a boat tour, grotto tour, plantation train ride (we have a 2 yo) zip line, etc. I think we are overbooked but itās scheduled
We just returned from 5 days in Mexico City choosing to fly from Tijuana direct to CDMX.
We took an Uber from our house to the CBX (cross border express) where you walk across the border directly into the airport. Everything worked well on both of our Viva Aerobus flights. It saved us so much time versus going to LA for a direct flight or flying from San Diego and changing planes.
Post-pandemic, my business travel declined, but this in the next 3 months, between personal and business travel, Iāve got trips to Baltimore/DC, Toronto, Calgary, Montreal (will probably drive), Marseille/Paris, Sao Paulo, New York.
I am going to try to use miles when I can. I have a lot on JetBlue and BA and some scattered everywhere else. (I was surprised to see that Iāve flown lifetime 475K lifetime miles on Delta as I rarely fly Delta/Sky Alliance). I was finally able to use some of my 2 MM BA Avios to book our anniversary trip to France. It was very hard to do. I purchased an app that shows availability but my assistant needed to call the Gold hotline to actually confirm the trip/seats. But this was a big success as I have never been able to use BA points prior to this trip.
Great use of the miles!! ![]()

Speaking of miles⦠I just noticed that my husband is close to becoming a million miler on Alaska.
2/3 of his miles come from very short flights to SV from Seattle. So roughly 1,300 miles RT.
It is so much easier to rack up miles now since Alaska now has longer routes and also counts international partnership flights towards that milestone. I kinda wish they would give more weight to those miles flown before Alaska became a āmajorā airline.
