Maybe friends/family/other non-Airbnb users?
Maybe, my relative who owned a rental blocked off their times.
It’s a large rental company.
I think it was the wording and the rapid response that made me suspicious that I wasn’t actually talking to a real person
I suspect some kind of algorithm is running and sending auto-messages. If I were you I’d send the owners an email saying you got notice that you can do the early/late thing for $25 per and see if they will honor.
I was thinking about it.
I made a comment about our very unusual weather we had earlier in the week. It’s something that every local is talking about.
Nothing. Just that they can’t honor my request.

I’ve been Christmas market-ing twice now, most recently last December. We visited Salzburg, Nuremberg, Rothenburg, Stuttgart, Esslingen (side trip from Stuttgart), and Munich.
Nuremberg was a nice market, but so ungodly crowded. The Documentation Center is still closed for remodeling, but there is a temp exhibit open. Traditional restaurant Goldenes Posthorn had good food. Reservations required.
Stuttgart is also crowded, but Esslingen is a short train ride away and wonderful. A regular market plus a medieval market. Great food and drink. In my top 3. It takes about 2 hours to get to Stuttgart from Munich.
Rothenburg has a smaller market, but the town is just so cute. Not a whole lot here culture-wise.
Salzburg, I just love. Great markets in different parts of town. The fortress offers a view of everything. Stop at Steigl brewhouse for a meal. We also liked Gasthaus Alter Fuchs and Der Weiss. There are the usual sound of music things, Mozart, etc. Very easy to get to from Munich. Definitely in my top 3
Munich is always fun. Plenty of markets and lots of museums. The Residenz museum and the Deutsches Museum are our favorites. Last time we ate at Der Pschorr, Augustiner, and Zum Alten Markt. In Freising there’s the oldest still-existing brewery, Weihenstephan. Awesome food and beer. Top 3 as well.
Has anyone been to San Miguel de Allende, Mexico? H wants to go in November or December. I had never heard of it, but apparently, it was voted the #1 city to visit by Travel + Leisure.
Did the message come via Airbnb but directly from the owners? Like in your message or inbox??
It was a message through Airbnb.
it actually doesn’t matter that much. I’ll send a message this week for early check in. If we don’t get early check in or late check out, it’s not a problem
I was curious if others have received these messages?
Google says AIRBNB has the capability to send automated messages if the owners of the property want it done. So sounds like the owners set it up through AIRBNB, to let you know how much it will cost, but you have to contact owners if you actually want to do it.
I get all kinds of messages when I book an Airbnb. Their latest is asking me if I want to book any events or museums or whatever through them. No thank you.
I have needed to check in late or early a couple of times. I message the Airbnb host through Airbnb, and they respond that way.
Yes, quite a while ago. It is very charming and picturesque. In fact, several sets of friends have retired there!
It is an amazing, beautiful city.
My friend just returned from there. She was scoping it out to move there for 1-2 years. We just packed up her life into storage (it was a horrible job Pleeeze don’t do this to your kids and start cleaning out stuff now). Her plan is/was to move there, rent a furnished place, get involved in Rotary (she’s very involved now). She does speak fluent Spanish so she has a lot more options than most of us would.
She loved the town and sent some beautiful pictures. She said the old town has steep stairs without much in ways of safety or building codes and she was scared of the steps for some of the second floor apartments. She then looked at a community of ex-pats and thinks that’s where she’ll end up. IMO, that sort of defeats the purpose of moving to Mexico for the culture and experience (although she’s experienced the culture for many years)
It looked like a fun place although it rained a lot while she was there. She said it is 3.5 hours from Mexico city on a bus (nice bus). To me that seems a long way to go to visit a village when there are a lot of other places to visit. Her children live in Detroit and we were doing a time line that it will take 2 days to travel home (San Miguel to Mexico City, 3 hours before an international flight, 3-4 hours to Chicago or detroit, then more to her kids’ homes) as it is unlikely it will all line up to do it in one shot.
She liked the plazas, churches, food, climate. There are a lot of Americans, Canadians, and Europeans living there.
Quick question on our little anniversary road trip in late October - we were planning on heading from San Diego straight to Solvang, then on to Cambria for dinner and the night. But I’m wondering if it’s worth stopping in Ojai first, likely for lunch, then Solvang, then Cambria. Is that too much for one day? It looks like Ojai would add a half hour driving overall, which is no big deal, and would offer better lunch options.
We wouldn’t have a lot of time in either town; been in Solvang 20 years ago but never Ojai. And yes, it would be nice to spend a day or more in either place but I’m lucky husband is going at all and we will be going on to Monterey the next day. So we can only fit a few hours for sightseeing.
I think it’s a lot for one day. Ojai is great but I’m wondering how much time it leaves you in Solvang to wander especially if you’re planning dinner in Cambria. Also check that the restaurant you are planning on going is open. A few years ago I went to Ojai with friends and many of the restaurants were closed on Wednesday. We had the same experience in Los Olivos. Both those were during Covid so that might have changed. I’m sure it’s frustrating that you can’t get your husband to give the trip a few extra days. Each of those locations are a destination for a few days themselves.
This would be on a Saturday so I expect everything will be open, albeit crowded perhaps. The restaurants on my radar for Cambria are open until 9:00 on Saturdays; we should be able to make it in time.
I think I won’t be able to go on the Rick Steve’s 17 day Italy trip. I gather the soft requirement is to do a carry on bag plus a small day bag. My husband and I both tend to pack a 30 inch rolling duffel for a trip to the beach! I know it’s our problem… and it’s a goal of mine to become a better packer. I haven’t given up on the idea, but it may take me years to get there.
Only you can decide what will make you happy, but it sounds like too much to me. It would make my husband crazy to have to deal with getting in to 3 different places (parking, etc.) and he’d be too stressed to enjoy himself in any of them. How does your husband deal with transitions, and how do you think he will feel?
He’d be fine; he routinely makes multiple stops every Sunday starting with a farmers market and continuing to at least two or three groceries, and maybe other places. Now that would drive me crazy! But pulling into two towns each for a couple of hours then a final stop? No problem for either of us.
