General retirement travel plans

After extensive research, looks like anything with a decent footbed will be bulky even if not heavy. I do have some lightweight Danskin glove shoes but, again, footbed. But there’s plenty of time to search, thanks all!

Even when I travel with just a carry-on, my Oofos get space in my bag. They work as slippers, poolside/spa sandals, and just chillin’ footwear (even with socks.). They take up more room than I’d like, but they are light and the perfect break from shoes.

I’m a big fan of Oofos flip flops. They have the same supportive footbed as the slides but are more compact. My go to shoes when we travel to warm places!

When traveling, I always have either Oofos flip flops or the traveltime clogs (mules) mentioned above. They are my slipper in hotel rooms, which sometimes have hard surface floors. They also can work for a visit to the pool or breakfast buffet.

Flip flops won’t work for me because (a) not a fan of thongs between my toes and (b) they need to work over socks.

I am very tempted towards these Clarks which come in wide. I like the Amazon price for the regular width; half the price. Not sure if 9 1/2 or 10 is the better size. Yet considering I want them for planes, busses, and hotel rooms, not really walking around much, size 10 regular might work, right? I like the blue but so many of my clothes are green it might be safer to get the black combi.

Oh, Amazon free return/replacement through January, cool! Black combi in 10 regular are in my cart and I’ll see how I feel about it tomorrow.

These Clarks look like they would take up more volume than Oofos slides.

BTW, I can’t stand flipflops! Oofos are the only ones that feel amazing and not flip flop like at all. But definitely wouldn’t work with socks.

Oh oh oh - this looks very promising! Silver in size 10M perhaps? Apparently they only weigh 4 oz. Again, mainly to change out of my shoes and sometimes over socks while traveling, and as slippers. It will be summer in NZ and Sydney.

I’m leaving in a week and a half :scream:!

Hadn’t thought about a pair of clogs, slippers or shoes to slip on. It’s a really good idea

At home, I have a pair of old Birkenstocks that I put on to get the mail. I do have a pair of Taos slipper/clogs, but they have seen better days, they are also pretty heavy.

I’m running out of time, this is the reason I can’t seem to quit amazon

Ordered a pair of merrell clogs that I had before and wore out. Also a pair of Clark slides, they look like a loafer and might work double duty. As slippers and https://a.co/d/4TF3hfM
to dinner

Amazon is easy to order and return, I’ll return the pair that I’m not taking.

The OOFOS slides are VERY light. At least the 3 pair I have are! You would not be able to bend them but the top will push down. They are uber comfortable. Any of the OOFOS styles will probably be loved by your feet and worth the price - and get much use when you return! I also love them around water (pool, walking a beach)

I’m with you. Just cannot stand flip flops. I keep trying at the beach…and no.

The main issue I have with the Oofah slides is that they seem to have a wide band of solid (not flexible) material across the middle of the foot. My experience with my bad bunions and high arch is that such styles end up squeezing me. I cannot comfortably wear a shoe that doesn’t stretch to accommodate the bunions.

Warning very ugly feet below:

Just thought I’d chime in on Oofos. I bought a pair last year after there was a thread with people praising them and saying how comfortable they are. I do not find them to be comfortable at all. Fortunately I got them on sale so didn’t spend a lot of money. I’ve worn them a few times since I’ve gotten them and each time I put them on I marvel that other people think they are comfortable. To me it seems like there is a ball right under my foot. Do other people like walking on balls? I don’t get it.

I think different shoes/fits work for different people. For me, the Oofos flip flops helped get me past a mild startup of plantar fasciitis. But… I’ve found fit can somehow vary even in same style. Have 2 pairs from local shoe store, don’t order online.

Looks like you need a sandal with straps that don’t cross the bunion area or that can be adjusted to fit that area. I have these Vionic slides that have adjustable straps and cross my foot in such a way that the bone is not involved.

They are good for walking and don’t look too old lady or recovery shoes.

I have two pairs of these Clark’s Saylee Moon sandals and they have been wonderful. A V shape or cross cross have proven to be best for me. I bought the first pair in white at a store a few years back and they were so comfortable, I went online and bought a second pair in bronze. They haven’t been available new for some time now. The bronze are the sandals I’ll be taking on the trip, but I don’t think they would fit over socks.

I might just bring my old Vionic Relax slippers.

I’m taking these to NZ and Australia. They are very light and the elastic straps are very comfortable. I don’t think they will work with socks…but I wouldn’t wear socks with sandals anyway…but I DO need a back strap.

I really like these. They take up very little room, and are light weight, and have a teeny rise to the heel. I got mine new with tags at a resale shop for $7.99!

The socks will be compression socks - necessary on the airplane (see Succession) and to counter general puffiness if helpful while on the bus.

I’m also wearing compression socks on the plane. I’m not worrying about walking around just in my socks for the LONG plane ride. I have the sandals for when we land…in case I can’t fit into my real shoes.

We aren’t spending lengthy times on buses at all on our trip. It’s just the plane ride.

I understand that some people won’t walk around on a plane in their socks…but we will also be getting those footie things I can slip over my compression socks for trips to the bathroom.

Ugg slides or other comfy sandals that fasten with velcro? My toes hate feeling enclosed so I feel your pain.

Having just ordered new sort of ugly Vionic slippers, I think I will wash and store my current pair as below and use them. No one will care on the plane or the bus. They’re kind of cute; wish they still made that pattern!

Edit to add these are not my feet.
