Georgetown 2015 Fall Transfer Thread

@Luthsn what extracurriculars were you involved in at UMD? I feel like that is the area that might set me back. Did you have anything especially significant to set you apart?

HUGE congrats @Luthsn !!!

So could we still get another wave for the College tonight?

I hope so, I don’t want to wait to hear back for another week.

Or worse, three more weeks

Or worse than that, not at all

Ugh!!! Looks like last week some MSB decisions came out around 8 and College decisions came out around 9 the same day…

@soccerem13 I know the feeling. I was waitlisted as a transfer applicant last year, and I believe it was because of my ECs.

Since then I’ve done a bunch of stuff. I joined Model UN here, I’m on a couple club sports teams and I was admitted into a few honor societies. I also mentored for an English/Chinese language exchange program.

However, those weren’t what did it for me. I’m an IR/Chinese double major here, so I went alone to southern China for a month this summer. I figured I’d have to set myself apart. I taught English to children in a village and journeyed around. I didn’t shy away from adventure so I had a couple of incredible experiences to write essays about.

I think that’s the stuff that they look for. Getting out of your comfort zone.

Does this help?

@Luthsn Yes, thank you! Congrats on your acceptance! Traveling to China must have been an amazing experience. I am involved in club sports as well and a few volunteer organizations along with greek life and an honor society, but compared to most applicants I’m sure this is nothing they haven’t already seen. Crossing my fingers nonetheless!

And to everyone else still waiting… May 7th is still too early to be worried. I followed this forum last year and the majority of people were accepted May 10-26 from what I remember. Wait-list notifications all went out on May 30th while rejections came June 1st.

Have some faith!

Accepted to SFS! Got the email at 4:26 PM.

I am sort of transferring from Georgia Regents University but really from a mix of schools.
I’m an a/d Marine and have maintained a 4.0 in night classes I’ve taken over the last few years. I’m fluent in Arabic and have lots of overseas experience as a student and deployed but also working with NGO’s in East Africa.

I thought they would be put off by the complexity of my application (I had transcripts from four different colleges because of moving/deploying) but I think I explained myself well in the essays.

Good luck to everyone! Any questions just let me know!

did only SFS letters come out today?

Theory: These first rounds are for the obvious admits, people who are above and beyond, unique for their experience or qualifications beyond academics, I think majority of us are in for a wait

@aquapinch7 congrats! I guess the SFS sent them all out at the same time. I’m entering the SFS as a R&C studies major… How about you?

Still holding out hope for another hour tears

man, this is taking forever, Georgetown is the last school I’m waiting on!

You’re telling me! I wish I’d never found this thread so that I could’ve just kept thinking they were coming June 1st and then be pleasantly surprised if it came early ;(

@Brifes yes this thread is known to induce trauma! Tortured me all of last May… I found myself tracking the number of people in the gtown transfer accepted Facebook group. This year, today is the first time I’ve visited the thread. On purpose.

@Luthsn I’m jealous of your will power and experience (and acceptance! Lol). I think I’m already in too deep:( no turning back now. Lots of sleepless nights and carpal tunnel ahead

any chance some letters will come tomorrow?

@princesstransfer I actually think it’s a possibility since it seems like they might have only released SFS decisions today

Hello, everyone!
I didn’t apply for Georgetown transfer this year but I am planning to apply next year. Would those who got accepted to Georgetown post their College & HS GPAs, SAT score, EC, etc? I really appreciate it if you do. I would like to know how high my GPA needs to be.
Thanks so much!

@globalminded I’ll give you some numbers but it’s more about setting yourself apart with ECs and unique experiences. Getting out of your comfort zone.

I have a 3.98 GPA here at University of Maryland with a double major in IR/Chinese and a DoD-sponsored minor in global terrorism. 690 math, 730 reading. I’m in the honors program and a few societies as well. Model UN and club tennis too. My high school stats were weak, because I was an idiot. I was outside of top 25% in class rank.

Admissions committees at Georgetown love to see that you care. Try to submit supplemental stuff to your app. I was waitlisted last year with only 1 recommendation and no interview. This year I sent 2 great professor recs in, and 2 external ones from life experiences. Try to bond with some professors so they’ll write you a good rec (as non-superficially as possible). I sent in a photo that went along with my essay, and I also sent in an explanation as to how my classes would fit in to the SFS curriculum. I pinpointed a professor at Gtown that I would love to study under as well. I sent in a midterm report too.

If you want more info you could PM me… I struggled 3 years with this stuff so I know some of the key points to strive for.
