Georgetown MSB vs UMD Smith vs CMU Tepper?

I think they are great - but because OP isn’t seeking an IB type career, they might look deeper into the roles at each company.

So the outcomes are wonderful - but is this the type of direction OP wants to go?

When we see kids wanting the top business schools, it is often this direction…but OP seems different than the traditional based on earlier comments in the thread.

So will all their classmates be singularly focused? And if so, is that a concern?

Something for OP to ponder.

Thank you for posting this; sounds very promising!

correct; def something to ponder. My husband & I thought their operations & analytics major may be interesting for our son b/c it has courses in comp sci & also data science which he may like but of course it will be up to him… Yeah I’m not sure if everyone there is IB focused but I imagine not since they also have majors in accounting etc.. to be fair, my son initially did want to major in comp sci (he’s taken all the courses at his HS) but then he pivoted b/c he got worried about lack of jobs (AI) & thinks it’s very competitive although business is just as competitive I imagine.. but he also does love math & he thinks business is a big enough umbrella to find a focus under.. fingers crossed! It’s crazy b/c in our day, we didn’t have to think about majors this early in the process…

And don’t forget, in additional to analytics, a lot have majors in MIS or something similar (Info Systems).

I’m sure he’ll find the right thing…..today it’s AI, what’s it tomorrow?

You gotta pursue what you love - and who knows, maybe he’ll be the trendsetter!!!

Sorry if some of this is repetitive, I didn’t read the whole thread. My student is at UMD (freshman) and LOVES it. He got into more selective schools and got larger scholarships elsewhere, but even with no honors or FIRE chose UMD. The food at UMD is very good, and he’s in a great dorm and has made a bunch of friends. We are paying OOS tuition. Half his friends are Jewish, but he is not. You’ll find a lot of extremely bright kids there. He wanted a big dynamic campus with a lot of options where he could sink or swim. This is a fit decision for your son. It’s fine to solicit advice but he will “know” at some point! And you’re choosing between all great options so there no bad decision.

great to know thx

I wanted to update everyone since I really appreciate all the great insight and opinions that so many of you gave on my post. My son ended up getting waitlisted to CMU, which I think made the decision easier for him. He just committed to Georgetown MSB! We went to the admitted students weekend for early action kids last weekend and they did such an amazing job that he was definitely swayed and said he didn’t want to attend the UMD admitted weekend so I’m proud of him for making a decision because he’s usually very bad with decision’s!! I’m selfishly thrilled that he will be close to home  I just hope he can find his people there and have a great experience! Thx again!

Congrats! It’s a great school. My D22, SFS, just graduated in Dec, and she truly enjoyed every minute she was there.
