Age roughly corresponds with intellectual maturity.

Regarding taking standardized tests twice

Guys (and gals), I cannot emphasize this enough: Don’t retake a standardized test unless you are sure you will do better. There is no way this can reflect well on you if you don’t, especially for the SAT. The SAT is supposed to predict how well you’ll do in college. If, after your first year or two of getting that glorious 4.0, you still manage a score that hovers around the 25th percentile of the school you’re applying to, you’re basically discrediting the GPA you earned.

GPA - 4.0 from a CC (will be applying for junior standing)
Scores - SAT: (2030/2400, 1360/1600) ACT: 30 (will probably submit ACT)
ECs - 2 honors societies including PTK, 20 hour/wk part time job, will try to add another EC or so this semester
Recommendations - should be good
High school - this is where it gets odd; I have a GED
Gtown is need-aware, right? Will not apply for aid.

Also does anybody have any data on just MSB’s acceptance? Is it generally less-selective than the college and SFS?

@asdfad123123
Georgetown claims to be need blind, and I believe acceptance rate is around 19% for MSB; it can only vary 1-3% among schools its not that big of a difference. I think you have a decent shot though EC&volunteering weak based on what youve said, and tests scores seem to be on par i suppose. Im not sure about the GED though, maybe a plus considering you got a 4.0 in CC afterwards? I can’t say.

GPA - 3.65 from UC Irvine (Dean’s Honors List, Campuswide Honors (which has 600 members out of 22,000 undergrads highly selective) i’m taking several honors classes in college, high school: 3.83 weighted (tons of APs/honors classes)
Scores - SAT: 1790 but an 11 on the essay, math was my lowest but i’m not really a math person
ECs - habitat for humanity both high school, journalism editor in high school two years, save darfur now club, sports in high school, traveled to kenya for a summer and helped construct a school building, taught english/geography, lots of travel and community service, model un in high school
essays: i can write some really good essays, teacher recs should be good as well.

Should I just go ahead and submit the PDF, paper version of the application or should I continue to wait for the online application to be posted?

I just called them to see if they recieved my personal data form yet or not because I sent it in so long ago…but they havent started sorting those yet cuz theyre still looking at the freshman applicants

and they said the online application should be available by the end of the week…

Hey I am applying for transfer also guys. Has anyone had their interview yet? I have mine next Saturday. I am really hoping it goes well because all of my other stuff is looking pretty rough. College GPA 3.4 and SAT is 1200. I have worked all through college thus far so idk if that will be taken into consideration or not… I am applying to the NHS school. has anyone heard about how hard it is to get accepted into their school versus the others at Georgetown?

No actually I havent. I have been waiting for the online application to be posted. By the way, does anyone know when that thing is going to be available? And a guy contacted me and said that he was my interviewer and that Georgetown had contacted him and told him to get a hold of me. My interview is next saturday (the 13) because all interviews have to be done by the 15.

Hey everyone–I’m knew here and so happy to see that there’s a place to get feedback on transfer admissions (thanks flowerhead!)

background
I’m currently a freshman at a top 5 LAC in the Northeast. My main motivation to transfer is because the departments I want to major in (Middle Eastern & African Studies) are new and therefore unable to offer the number/quality of courses I’d like. I should also add that I was never interested in studying those areas in HS, and therefore this is a new development that I could articulate in essays. I’m also looking for a livelier campus that it is in a city (as opposed to living in a bubble!) But I’m concerned about my chances because I applied to the SFS in high school and was deferred, then rejected. Not sure how applying as a transfer would look seeing as I was rejected once already.

stats

HS: top 100 public in the nation, no ranking
GPA: 3.6 uw 4.0 + w (can’t remember exact weighted, but know it was above 4.0)
SAT: 2100/2400 (700 across the board)
Rigorous course - all honors or AP classes; 4 AP tests taken: (4, 4, 4, 5)
ECs: President Model UN, Editor-in-Chief of Newspaper; a lot of interning experience.

College GPA, first sem: 3.5 (I should also add that we have severe grade deflation)
I took four 200 and 300 level classes, including Arabic = A A- B+ B
ECs: Editor of campus magazine, Poli-Sci Council Secretary, and employed in the admissions office.

I’m confident I will have very strong recs, and I know I can express exactly why I want to go to Georgetown. Thank you for the input and I apologize if this was lengthy to read!

I’m pretty sure the rumor about the 15th being the deadline is false… several of my parents’ classmates are interviewers and from what they told me, you aren’t assigned an interviewer until your application is officially received - meaning they input all of your data into the database. When I called the admissions office last week, they said they hadn’t even starting inputting transfer applications yet because they’re still dealing with all of the freshman applicants.

Maybe the 15th is the interview deadline for freshman apps? But as our app deadline is March 1st, I hardly think 15 days is enough time to get interviews done. Plus, as they don’t notify us of decisions until June 1st, there’s still pleeeeenty of time to have an interview done. They’re not even required for transfers, so the rules regarding them can’t be that draconian.

Hey. I am considering applying to Georgetown, but I really want to know my chances of getting in.

I am a sophomore at a top 20 liberal arts college.

College GPA 3.99
SAT I R550,M800,W650 SATII Maths I 760 Physics 760
EC’s college volunteer 80-90 hours, work in a charity club
High school president of the community student organization, vice president of the HIV orphan club
I am also doing special studies(research) with my professor.

I have recently finnished my time in the United States Marine Corps. I am currently attending the College Of Southern Maryland. I am debating now on transfering to the University of Maryland at CollegePark thinking that it will help my chances of getting into MSB. My current GPA at the CC is 4.0 and I work full time 40+ hours a week as a defense contractor. My high school GPA was sad at something like 3.0. I guess what Im asking is will applying to georgetown from UM and my time in the Marine Corps help me, and finnaly will my poor high school GPA be a deal breaker. Thanks for your help guys this thread is very helpfull.

Hey guys, I would be extremely grateful if someone could chance me for Georgetown (College).

I am an international transfer student:

Highschool from the Subcontinent: Extremely good A’Level grades. Basically, 3rd in a class of 300. Great activities and tons of community service with a great deal of involvement in the Debating and Dance societies. Also, Class Valedictorian.

Now, I am studying at one of Canada’s most prestigious Universities. GPA: 3.75
Again, great deal of extra curricular involvement and community service.

SAT 1: 1350/1600

Ambitious essay, decent recommendation (my school is really big so profs generally dont know students well).
