There are actually several other schools announcing today as well - schools that have a lot of overlap with UIUC and GT (like Maryland, Michigan, Wisconsin). Hopefully it’s a good day for everyone at at least one of their schools.

Yeah today is a big day. All of these plus Miami, UNC, and NC State. Possibly UT Austin as well.

I don’t know why but it seems crazy to me that they were able to do this college application process before computers and the internet. So much paper lol.
imagine having to worry about your handwriting when filling out your application

I know that’s crazy. They must have had to copy their essay down like 20 times for each school.
People typically didn’t apply to more than 3 or at most 4 schools. They found a match (which was often the local school), and maybe a couple of others. And we used a typewriter 
When you got a decision (in the mail) you’d know what it was in advance. Thin envelope = “We think you’re a great student, yada yada, but sorry”. Thick package = “Congratulations! You’re in and here’s a bunch of info for you”.

Prior to online apps and common apps in general, students only applied to a small number of schools. Too much work otherwise. The reason why the acceptance rate at good schools has dropped is primarily an increase in the number of apps, not a change in their programs. Test optional had a huge impact too.

And WhiteOut. 
If you were rich you had an electric typewriter that contained a whiteout ribbon so you could backspace and fix errors.
