Georgia Tech Early Action for Fall 2024 Admission

That’s great to hear. Glad that he found his college so early in the process!

DS24 accepted to CS OOS but not running for Stamps. Awaiting Fin Aid Award and see if they will be more generous than MIT.

DD accepted Chem E, but portal doesn’t say anything abt Stamps or Gold scholars, does that mean no merit aid? We won’t qualify for any need based, but being OOS were hoping for some merit, looks like Provost scholarships will be awarded later.

Don’t worry, I think a number of those accepted like my DS will likely have to withdraw our applications too after we see what kind of financial aid offer we receive. We were really hoping for Stamps or Gold to make this affordable, but son not invited. We will wait see what we get, but we can’t justify anything close to 50k per year

There is a follow up round of Provost Tuition Awards to OOS students and some college scholarships. But, again, those are incredibly limited. We are absolutely in the same boat. We have received quite generous merit aid everywhere but GT and GT is her dream school. We knew this was a very possible outcome because the of the insanely qualified applicant pool.

Thanks - do you know what the Provost process looks like (when, how, etc)? Is it all merit or financial need? Many thanks!

Not our son! AP Calc BC in 10th, then AP Stat & Multivariable. Big volunteer, organically so - not for the hours/resume, Eagle Scout and was a major project. rejected.

Deferred here. Eagle Scout (with lots of service and all 139 merit badges) and AP Calculus!

Same as one of the threads from last year my son was denied the GT fall 2024 for engineering. I can’t digest it and look for a valid reason where we went wrong. He has 22 APs (4 or 5)| SAT 1590|3.8 GPA|NMSQT national semi-finalist|winner for a few science oly|President of two clubs and ranked 35 out of 750 class size. We are shocked to get this rejection. Not sure, whether we can get any answers through the appeal process or talking to admission counselors here…

Don’t look for reasons. You’ll never know.

Could be essay. LORs. Could be GPA. Could be - I’m assuming you have too many APs (self study).

Could be you are OOS. Geography is labeled important.

Your kid is a stud. Their loss. Not yours.

Find another school. Many will want you and it’s likely he’ll land a similar career outcome. Even from unranked. My kid interned and lived with two Ga Tech students after second year. His school unranked. He got an invite back next summer. They didn’t. So yours will be fine.

Love those that love you. It’s not meant to be.

You’ll never know why but when he steps foot an another campus, it won’t matter either.

Good luck.

GT awards 60 Provost scholarships. All EA2 applicants were automatically considered, no need to submit a separate application.
Students are notified by email within two weeks of admission results coming out, so you should hear by Feb 2 at the latest. Provost brings down OOS tuition to in-state prices. Good luck! :four_leaf_clover:

12% acceptance rate for oos students.
91% accepted had 4.0 or higher.

Your kid will soar elsewhere.

I’m sorry your S was denied, but OOS Ga Tech is a reach for all students. Sometimes students, their parents, and/or counselors just don’t realize that or correctly set expectations.

I agree you won’t get an answer from the AO and would focus on helping your S move on. He’s a great student and will do well wherever he ends up.

That is weighted GPA just to be clear.

I don’t think anything was wrong, it’s just really tough to get in, even with great stats (because they only accept a tiny fraction, and EVERYONE has great stats).

D24 (OOS) doesn’t know a single person who got accepted. One deferral, the rest straight up rejected, and these included UW 4.0s/ranked #1 in class/excellent ECs and test scores.

Just have to move on. Better things yet to come.

Hi everybody,

Daughter accepted to engineering. She wants Biomedical Engineering but my understanding is first year is just general engineering. We are OOS and very happy.
By now she got rejected by UNC, deferred by Michigan and accepted to GT, Purdue (with Merit scholarship), Maryland, Ohio and VT.
Still waiting for UVA, BU and Cornell - but definitely she has some good choices to pick from.

GPA 3.92 UW
1490 SAT
5/500 in her class
9 AP’s
National Honors Society
President of Mock Trial Team
Significant community service (deeply involved in Special Olympics and Valerie Fund due to her best friend being diagnosed with brain cancer)

Is RD generally a bit higher in acceptance rate than EA?
