I’m confused about why this new poster is posting this kind of stuff in the Patent Cafe. Their first post said it was their daughter going on the trip, too.
The 8 year old wants to make her own decision about taking her jacket…and not you telling her to take it, common sense has nothing to do with it…she want s to show her autonomy.
But @beerme, the jacket is on the list that she has, it states clearly that a “warm waterproof” must be brought in case it gets cold at night or rains. It also states that the zip fastening must be in working order so that the jacket can be done up in the event of inclement weather.
I get where you are coming from though ;).
Perhaps she can learn the hard way why she should “be prepared”.
“Perhaps she can learn the hard way why she should “be prepared”.”
In general and in other circumstances, I would agree with that approach and it is one I’ve utilized myself with my own kids. However, in a group camping situation, it could result in circumstances that could affect the group or endanger the child. Being cold and wet, in nature where temperature swings are possible and where many 8 year olds don’t have much body fat, could result in an unsafe situation. Why risk it?
You either bring the proper gear on the packing list or you stay home.
I am not going to let her learn the hard way, trust me.
She is my little sister so I will take good care of her, and she knows that .
Rule is she packs what is on the list or she stays home. The End.
My kids went to all kinds of camps and camping trips. They packed what was on the list. or they stayed home.
