Getting over CC

I live in the SF Bay Area. If there are others who would like to meet IRL, we could plan a gathering to coincide with @HImom’s schedule.

My youngest is 30, so out of college for a good while! When my husband and I are having a discuss or something we need information or opinions on, he will ask me if I have posted here yet, or ask what do your forum friends think

I only come to the Cafe as I don’t really have anything to offer in the other threads. Here in the Cafe I find people willing to help others, as well as a different voice than my family and IRL friends. While my friends at home “know” me, sometimes they say what they think I want to hear, not what I need to hear. In the Cafe, we speak and hear the truth, whether we like it or not!

I joined CC in October 2004 and I don’t have any plans to leave. The parent cafe is the only page I visit, and I like it. You can’t get rid of me! Well, I guess you could, but I hope you don’t. Remember Curmudgeon? I haven’t seen anything from him in a while, have you?

My kids are 30 and 27.
AND our 27 yr old has special needs so has never needed college advising.

Don’t ever plan on leaving…too many kind intelligent people in this cafe who generously supply me with solutions to all my life challenges. Well, maybe not all, but close!

I’m smiling seeing several familiar names posting here! I’m a quiet member who really enjoys this well-moderated board with interesting discussions - it’s quite a haven. My oldest graduated from college in 2010 and my other, well, let’s just say I’m hoping he’ll finish in under 10 years.

Began lurking in early 2002 and created an account in 2005. My kids say “You’re still on that?” when I dispense advice on discolored big toenails, Hamilton tickets, wedding issues, etc. I rarely visit their college’s forum, but the Parent Cafe is pretty much a daily habit, particularly with coralbrook’s house flipping adventures. No plans to leave anytime soon:)

My oldest is a high school senior. My youngest is in 8th grade. I am thankful for all of you “older and wiser” folks every day.

Don’t leave.

Began in 2000 on the PR, oh so snarky board (remember TTT if you were there?!), and was here, too, but there were very few posters, I’ve seen three kids through assorted BA/BS/MA/MS/PhD/MD and rarely post on any board but the cafe. I have made friends with CCers outside of CC and visited their homes, even!
I still check the cafe most days and often the first I hear of breaking news is right here on CC

Here since 2003, I found this just as son was applying for music performance. CC helped keep me sane during the application, audition process. Son is 30, HS class 2004, college 2008 and 2010. Lots of wonderful people here.

One piece of advice, @trackmbe3 --don’t obsess on “likes”. They show up, they don’t show up–it’s hard to guess what post might get them. There’s no contest here and no one owes them to anyone. Just enjoy the conversations.

Goodness I never noticed that my likes were being tracked. I’m actually more proud of the “helpfuls”. I’ve been here since the old boards - 2004 or so I think? At some point when my kids were kidding me about my postcount I pointed it out it was something like one a day.

Good to see many old-timers on this thread. I joined in 2005 when S#1 was a rising HS senior. My youngest was a nursing infant at the time. She’s now a 6th grader. My kids are/will be in college classes of '10, '13, '16, '17 (grad school), '18, '21, '24, and '27. I’ll be around for a while. If I live that long.

Where would we go if we couldn’t come here? Best forum that I have ever found. Don’t go, stay!

I joined in 2007 when I was trying to complete the FAFSA for the very first time - did a google search for whatever my question was and it sent me here. Two have graduated college and are employed with good jobs and the last one is a sophomore in college.

My activity here hasn’t been about them in awhile!

I’m another defector from the PR boards. My very last thread there was “Rankings shmankings” . I got an invite to come this way and did. I believe my profile says 2003 or 2004. But there was a redo of this forum before that…and everyone who was a member prior to the redo got a new start date.

I started here when DS was just about done with his college choosing…and was going off to auditions…so fall 2002.

Kids are 32 and almost 29.

I also have gotten some great IRL friends which began here.

^Oh my, the PR boards. That WAS a long time ago. (When I see @Hanna , I always still think “Hanna From Chicago”. )

It is really amazing to think of how long many of us have been here, especially those from the old forum. When I think about first joining, which I think was 2000 or 2001, I can not believe the time that has past! When I first joined, I spent most of my time reading; it took me some time to actually post.

My daughter who use to make fun of my “fake friends” recently told me she joined a board in her city and actually started a book club with a few women from there. She didn’t exactly apologize for giving me such grief as a young adult, but I know she now gets it.

What does “PR” stand for - Princeton Review??

Yes.

@snowball, my kids ask me, “What is new on College Confidential?” regularly. Usually there is something interesting to tell them!
