HIMom, I wonder why your parents don’t use the gift cards they get? Are they saving them, in case they find something they really want? Are they not shoppers? Forget about them? It’s always interesting why people wouldn’t use gift cards.

My S and GF told me how much they liked a store close to them and we’re going to spend a lot there. So it was a no brainer to get them a GC.

I might be strange but even if I receive cash. I make sure to spend it on something. So I can tell them what I’ve spent their money on so they know it’s appreciated. I might be a bit obsessive lol! Even if I receive a GC to a place we wouldn’t go to (I once received one to Olive Garden and we moved away from any and so didn’t use it) I will gift it to a person who can. In the above I gave them to my parents. They went to lunch after dr appointments so they were thrilled.

HImom, I’ve seen you post that before. How did they even AMASS $4k in gift cards??? Most that I’ve been given are in the $25-50 range. That’s either a whole lot of gift cards or lots of generous givers! There are specific websites where you can sell GC. Maybe you could set them up on such a site so they at least get SOMETHING out of them.

I don’t trust my son to use gift cards. When he left for college, I found many in his room.

If I don’t get gift ideas, then I put cash in his account and ask him to let me know what he bought. For the last few years, he gives me ideas. Today I bought him coffee grinder and French press coffee maker. He linked me to Amazon items, but I shopped around and ordered them tonight from Williams-Sonoma. Side note, I don’t like French press coffee makers, but I see it s generational thing.

We have helped them use some of the gift cards. They are in no great hurry to use them and keep getting more for various occasions to relace those that are spent. When I can, I buy their gift cards from them and giv them cash but it really doesn’t serm to concern them much one way or another to have this stack of unspent cards. They have no particular interest in gifting them and are in no hurry to spend them. No interest in reselling thm either.
