Kind of late for this thread’s purpose, but I send the elders (MIL, Aunts) fresh Christmas greenery centerpieces. It adds some festivity - color and fragrance - to their homes for the season, but they don’t have to be stored.
They do recommend some watering care, and my Dad wasn’t keeping up with that, so this year he got a waxed amaryllis bulb instead.

Well I ordered the blanket referenced earlier, MIL is 95 in assisted living, not very mobile, can’t eat hard food, has a photo frame, I just hope I didn’t jinx her (my mom passed 4 days before her birthday, my dad 4 days before Christmas, in both cases I had to return their gifts).

I bought 3 for BIL from Costco—huge and no care needed (he’s very neglectful of plants).
