at my school there are more guys that are smarter then girls…
in the past 5 years at my high school only guys have been vals/sels.
we have more guys in the ap and honors classes also

I noticed this too… Even in my AP Physics class girls outnumber guys. However I would say the smartest 5 students in the class are all guys, myself included. We don’t get the highest grades, not even close, but we know the work better and are smarter for sure. Guys are lazy, that’s just the way it is. Comparing GPA’s is not comparing smartness.

I totally agree. The difference between guys and girls at my school is that guys are lazier than the girls. It’s as simple as that! Girls, at my school at least, are better at listening to the teacher, and doing things procedure-like, but can’t really apply what they learn. For guys, I think that we are smarter (I’m not a hater
), but don’t earn the best grades. That is how it is for me and my school.

I completely agree with the guys are lazy comments. From the guys I know, most of them are huge procrastinators and end up doing the work at the last minute, not at all, or copying it off someone else. I don’t doubt that they are intelligent, they just don’t feel like working sometimes.

At my school, there are 2 guys in the top 10, but I think that’s a statistical anomaly, as the top 10 last year were quite evenly balanced.

The gender distribution in the classes is pretty stereotypical:

My AP English class: 4 guys/19
last year’s AP English class: 4 guys/13
AP French: 2 guys/15
AP bio: 4 guys/~20
AP chem: 4 girls/~20
AP physics B: 5 girls/~20
AP physics C: 1 girl/14
AP calc BC: 1 girl/8
AP comp sci: 0 girls

APUSH, AP Psych, AP world history, AP European history, and AP Econ are pretty balanced.

Unfortunately, many girls lose interest in math and certain types of science because society seems to think math and physics are unfeminine.

Of course girls have higher ranks. They work much harder than guys and are more artsy etc so that they impress the teachers. In my opinion, i think guys are generally smarter (anti-flame shield) because guys can think better under pressure which is pretty much the case in most professions in the real world. Hence the fact that guys have higher sat scores than girls.

I think that’s quite stereotypical of girls, but in all honesty I have to agree with you (although I do believe I am a girl who does break the “girl mold”)

why does it matter that there r more girls or guys in honors/AP classes? they are PEOPLE. So as the issue with AA, why don’t we think a lot of PEOPLE r in honors/AP classes?

girls are proven to function differently than boys.

so? they r still human. Human’s have common characteristics.

Are you suggesting that gender studies is a lost cause?

humans also have only one dna difference from earth worms, so you think maybe we should have earth worms learning AP calc?

no i just think there r times when we divide ourselves up into gender, race etc when it is unnecessary.

oh but the colleges make it necessary with affirmative action

what is apparent is not always real.

uhh…people ARN’T all the same, that’s what makes us individuals. Don’t lump everyone in one category when there are millions of things that make us all unique. girls/guys is one of them, and we’re talking about how other differences correlate to the girls/guys…theres nothing wrong with that.

no what i’m saying is that why does it matter if girls run honors classes or clubs?

why does anything matter if thats your argument?

no one says it matters, we’re just debating if we’ve all found the same thing.

Same at my school. Top ten:
- Me! (girl)
- Girl
- Girl
- Girl
- Girl
