It’s probably worth it though. No one has a direct flight?
Key biacayne. Direct to Miami. Sultry tropical Warmth. City available. Beaches are remarkable. South beach for a lark. The RC there is beautiful. Pools beaches and palm trees galore.
@knowstuff -limited direct flights off season and only on weekends. Won’t work for one in our party.
I know they wanted warm - but how about Boston. November will have lovely fall colors and you would easily fill up a weekend with museums and sightseeing.
Wherever you choose… we’ll want at Trip Report afterward.
Well, I was going to suggest Nashville. Why did that come off?
It does squeak into the 3-4 hour window you provided.
“how about Boston. November will have lovely fall colors and you would easily fill up a weekend with museums and sightseeing.”
Museums and sightseeing, yes. Might not see much fall colors that late unless brown is a color you enjoy.
@“Youdon’tsay” - One of the party refused to go to Nashville. I honestly don’t remember why. We’ve probably had a thousand text exchanges at this point. ; )
I appreciate everyone’s insight!
Savannah came off the list but Charleston, St. Augustine, and Charlottesville VA were added, as well as NYC, Chicago, and Boston (that were off but are now on because of ease of travel). We’ll see what group consensus decides.
It’s hard when you have several people with lots of conditions to try and accommodate!
Since you are considering areas close to NYC/DC like NYC itself and Boston, consider Philly. Wonderful restaurants, art scene.
Philadelphia Museum of Arts, Barnes Foundation, Longwood Gardens (totally worth going to outside of summer), Mural Arts walking tour to name a few things.
I’ll just throw in Newport seeing Boston is also on the list. I personally think Newport is even better in the off-season - no crowds and MUCH cheaper. Great places to eat, mansions, cliff walk, hiking by the water…I love Newport even in the winter. Enjoy!
Charlottesville, VA is a wonderful small city. Monticello, Ash Lawn, the UVA campus with its newly restored rotunda. There are wineries and cideries a short drive away. Shenandoah National Park is an hour’s drive. The town has excellent restaurants.
+1 on Charlottesville and @TatinG ‘s suggestions. You wouldn’t need to go as far as Shenandoah National Park (although that’s a great choice) for some easy hiking trails. Work around UVA home games and Parents Weekend, though, for best lodging availability and prices.
I was just surprised to see Nashville off the list. A group of ccers from the HS class of 2010 went two years ago, and we are going back in October!
Charlottesville does have direct flights from Chicago, New York, and DC. Nice fall weather. James Madison’s Montpelier is also very interesting.
St. Petersburg. Non stop flights from NYC and DC to Tampa. About 30 min. from the airport. You can stay near the marina, very walkable, safe area. It is very artsy, lots of boutiques, dining and entertainment. There is a hop on/off trolley. Can schedule a class at Morean Art Center , Dali Museum, Museum of Fine Art, Chihuly Museum,Breweries, Saturday Morning Market, Sunken Gardens.
If they won’t go to Nashville, can they really be called friends? LOL!!
Another thought…Sarasota. It’s not as trendy but lots to do. Just the Circus Museum is worth the trip. And…there is a Columbia Restaurant there!
Don’t discard Savannah prematurely : ). JetBlue from NYC is direct and cheap. Also, see what’s happening on the weekend you’re visiting. I’m always surprised at the diverse entertainment , recreational and artistic possibilities. Plus, very popular up and coming restaurant scene.
Love Savannah but one of the girls was just there and would prefer to go someplace else.
