alright fine so I made a poor choice in retrospect. But would the college hold it against me that i took both of them and didn’t score 800? I never thought my chances were greater than 50 btw and I’m ready for rejection but hopefully deferrence :)

I have a question for all you who are “chancing” Mike.
How many of you are students at Stanford? And if you are, what were your scores? Basically, and I mean no disrespect, just trying to understand the basis of the comments, what gives your comments credence? Aren’t your “chances” just opinion? And as such, can you tell us what are you basing them on?

yes I agree with theorymom. I’d like to know that as well.

@#theorymom
Yes, all of these chances are opinions. That’s why you come to CC, to get opinions about your chances. No one here can truly predict your chances, we can only speculate. If you don’t want speculations then don’t come to CC, asking for chances. Everything said here should be taken with a grain of salt.

^
ah but, that just backs up my thoughts here.
Those of you have answered Mike, are you students there? And what are you basing your “opinions” on.
This is important to know. Are your opinions based on what you have read on the college’s website or app materials, or are they based on some first hand knowledge…like you know someone well who got in (or didn’t) and what their scores were, or you are a student there or the parent of a student there.
I see a lot of people jumping between the forums for some of these high end schools with lots of opinions, and without some sort of first hand experience, it appears. So while a grain of salt is indeed necessary, it would be good if posters stated WHY they have the opinion they do, so the original poster can decide how large a grain he needs.
Thanks

theorymom- Nothing short of being on the admissions committee itself really “qualifies” you to answer the vast majority of questions people ask on this forum. Stanford student, high school kid looking to apply, parent of applicant - whatever, it’s all really irrelevant in terms of whether it lends an opinion more credence or less.

The problem, however, doesn’t lie with the quality of opinions being given, it lies with the quality of questions being asked. People come in here looking for an answer. Most of the time they’re already applying, or about to apply, and nothing anyone tells them will really change anything. They can’t go redo their last three years of high school. But they come here asking to be chanced nonetheless.

And to be honest, that’s fine. Everybody here, myself included, recognizes that chance threads are a big part of CC and it’s something you have to be willing to deal with if you’re going to spend your time here. But just as I realize that, people who post these chance threads have to realize something as well: you’re looking for advice few people in the country are qualified to give over an anonymous internet messageboard from a bunch of strangers you know nothing about. Clearly the advice you get is to be taken with a grain of salt, hell, probably even less than that.

When someone comes in here asking for a numerical chance for admission, clearly any answers he receives in number form are going to be nothing more than idle speculation, regardless of who they’re coming from.

I think after some thought all of us need to come to the consensus that chance forums may be more brutal than reality. The majority of people on CC are way above the norm like in the top .1% of graduating seniors. Even though the majority of these people claim crapshootings to HYPSM, only a handful actually gets rejected. Thus I still have a slight hope in my chance
and I believe you will agree with me.

^ if you want to be told you aren’t an automatic reject, you could have asked :P

Nobody gave you a score of 0 or 1 lol

good luck :)

…25…

to Docketgold
exactly and was the point I was actually trying to make. It was that if you are going to ask for your “chances” be very aware that these are opinions based on nothing more than…well, opinion.
I agree, it seems to be a major part of CC, but not particularly constructive IMO.
Sometimes I feel it is just a way for the poster to brag while aw shucksing, but I also feel there is some true and serious angst on the part of some, and I guess I was just trying to ease some of that. I feel some answers are harsh in the extreme, and I suppose I should just assume the chancee knows that it is nothing more than opinion, but once a mom always a mom I guess.
Anyway, Mike, you have a good chance to get into a good school. Go for it and wherever you end up, I bet it will be the time of your life.

I need your help on this again guys. I just took the Nov. SAT and I’m pretty confidential I got between 2150 and 2250 which should improve my chances. So there no way Stanford will accept that right cuz its from Nov? So now what are my chances for deferral so I may update my new sat score? THANKS!

Stanford hardly defers. I forget the number but a very small percentage of SCEA applicants gets deffered

they deffer about 30%.

send your scores in (add Stanford as recipient of the scores) - maybe they will get there before your app is reviewed.

20, and that’s about the same chance everyone else has.

theres no such thing as chances when there is a definite decision to be made, you either get in or you dont. only you know how strong your application is, if you feel like youll get in you might, if you feel like you probably wont then you almost definitely wont

15% .

someone in this thread gave this kid a 60% chance of getting into Stanford? I give him a 5% chance of getting into Stanford. GPA is only a 3.8, SAT is only 2050, and he has no hooks. There are hundreds of 4.0 2300+ applicants who will get rejected.

jeez thats harsh ChoklitRain! But hey its probably reality
Ready for rejection anyway.

^ low expectations might be better, because then you will be less disappointed if rejected. not to mention that it feels even more amazing to get accepted when you’re not expecting it.

…some stay dry and mikeunlacher feels the pain
