Give me one or two compelling reasons why one must go for UCLA over Berkeley

Berkeley isn’t “academically superior” to UCLA. That’s complete BS, It all depends on the programs being examined. Berkeley’s amazing for Pure, Natural, and Mathematical Sciences and Engineering, Computing, and Technology for example, but sucks balls at Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacology, and Health Sciences (and saying ‘but UCSF is basically it’s medical school’ doesn’t count)

If we’re talking about undergrad, they’re basically the same, if we’re talking about grad programs, berkeley is #1 in the two aforementioned categories, and it, with harvard and caltech, are the only universities with ‘dream faculty.’ That being said, it doesn’t dominate in some other categories.

while UCLA isn’t #1 in any category, it also doesn’t have a ranking lower than #9 in any of its rankings (berkeley’s lowest is 104), so it’s extremely well balanced. (it should be noted that the only other university having all of its rankings in the top 10 is harvard)

i made a spreadsheet a while back for myself to try to organize some of the rankings for the top 10, in addition to some other schools of interest in california. You can look at it here:
