Giving Back

Many organizations need hands on help.Money is nice, but actual helpers are critical.

I teach English as a Second Language to immigrants.

I’ve tried a number of volunteer activities but none of them was very satisfying, usually due to administrative issues. Someone once said that to make your volunteering meaningful, you should do what only you can do. In other words, use your special skills and/or knowledge, and you’ll really be making a difference.

I support several charities to honor friends, and their children, with health challenges - The Cure Starts Now Foundation, Children’s Tumor Foundation, and Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. I will donate to any charity that will benefit children’s health. I have been so blessed to have two healthy children. ETA: The Vicki Soto Memorial Fund is a recent favorite. What a hero she was!

I volunteer one Saturday a month at a non-profit that provides furniture and household goods to people/families transitioning out of homelessness and poverty. My other volunteer activities are one time a year - at walks/events supporting the above charities.

Like not telling, I see patients who are unlikely to pay, and someMedicaid clients, who pay $5, and much paperwork to get more.

I do like running the Bookclub at our library. We had a holiday party with two local authors presenting. I’ve been doing this seven years.
