@ChoatieMom: Curious as to your thoughts about Phoenix versus Tucson especially since you have already made one move within the state of Arizona (Scottsdale to SE Valley area of Phoenix). Did you consider Tucson ?
No, we never considered Tucson. We’ve visited many times, but there isn’t much there besides the university, and we didn’t find it to be a great college town (you know, like Ann Arbor). We wanted to remain close to Phoenix/Scottsdale and our old neighborhood so we didn’t lose our friends. We’re a little less than an hour away from the old house. Mostly though, we were looking for a particular type of community and there are only four of these in the state, none south of where we are now, so Tucson was never a consideration.
@publisher one of our kids lives in Phoenix. There is NO cool time of the day in July and August. It is coolest before sunrise in the morning according to my kid…but coolest meant temps in the high 80’s or low 90’s this summer. That’s when he went for a walk.
It cooled down at night after sunset, but the heat from the day continues to radiate so that wasn’t the best time for a walk…but better than when the sun was out.
My kid went to Flagstaff a number of weekends to escape the heat in Phoenix. He rented an Airbnb this summer and said that worked out well. It’s way cooler there…like temps in the 70’s.
I love Arizona. I think it’s one of the most amazing states in the country.
My S loved it when he went to interview. It was February, and he had a blast hiking. But he decided it’s a great place to vacation rather than live (for him).
There are a lot of places I don’t mind traveling to, but would never want to live there. AZ is one of them.
It’s good that different people have different preferences.
We love AZ, too, @MaineLonghorn, but our other love is Maine. Sounds like we should do a house swap sometime.
It was 73 degrees during our morning walk today. I needed my light jacket. Unheard of.
We’ll take ten weeks of high heat for nine months of paradise.
@ChoatieMom, we turned on our heat this morning. It feels so good.
My problem growing up in Texas was that I was MISERABLE, April through September. Headaches and nausea. The months of good weather weren’t enough to make up for that.
