<p>Personal damage, trauma, and the fact that some of the personal data was of great utility to the OP – is a good shot at some money.</p>
<p>Note that the email wasn’t just hacked – but that associated accounts were. Heck, the hacker even hacked into the OP’s personal relationships.</p>
<p>The stupid hacker impersonated me, calling my friends horrible expletives through IM.
He caused personal damage and trauma.
And he destroyed the forum for a professional website. I published a book with McGraw-Hill and I run the supporting website myself. A major selling point of the book is the forum - which is not destroyed, thanks to him…</p>
<p>I really don’t want to spend the time pressing charges, though. If it was a matter of submitting an online form, and maybe copying files to give to the police, that would be okay. But I don’t want to find a lawyer, pay a lawyer, go to court multiple times, etc. I’m actually interning like 50 hours a week this summer (2 separate internships, only one pays), so I have no time. And I’d rather be at my internship than court.</p>
