GMO foods - do you try to avoid them, if so - why?

Adding to the thoughts of having to be cautious about “Organic…” There used to be a UPick Strawberry Farm right next to us. I was outside once and heard some customers ask the guy driving them to their pick spot in a golf cart if the strawberries were organic. His reply? “Mostly. They’re 88% organic. We only spray for bugs and weeds.” The customers seemed impressed. We’ve been trying to figure out how they reached the 88% number ever since and still use it in family jokes along with, “only spray it for bugs and weeds.”

“I’m a bit skeptical of a lot of food advertised as organic. Given the price premium, there is an incentive to not always be on the up and up in terms of practices”

I agree. One of the big problems with “organic” food is that there is a lot more being sold than there is being grown.

Anything “organic” (other than organic chemistry reagents) coming from China is suspect.

An interesting idea from UC Davis was for GM-organic, to develop GM crops that would do well in organic production (resistant to pests or diseases, for example).
