My friend and I want to room together in Goddard Hall. Will NYU take our roomate request into consideration even if we get into Goddard?

Yes, particularly if you are in the same “stream”. If you end up in different streams then you might have to call and make some noise to get placed together, since they tend to group the floors by stream—or at least they did when my daughter was a freshman. My daughter and her requested roommate ended up in different streams and I had to call and request that they be allowed to room together anyway. They were very accommodating when we stressed that it was very important both to the girls and to us, the parents who are paying for it all. Actually, we have found that whenever you find yourself lost in the weeds of big school bureaucracy, a call from a parent will usually get prompt action. I’ve only had to do it three times in three years, but each time we quickly got the result we were hoping for.

That makes me feel better. Thank you!

You’re welcome. Though you sound as though you are familiar with the residential college concept, here are a couple of links for those who are curious about this dorm option:

My daughter lived in Goddard her freshman year and participated in the Poverty and Affluence stream. She really enjoyed the stream activities and absolutely loved living in Goddard. She shared a huge triple that ended up being the gathering place/meeting space for the entire floor. They eventually developed a core group of friends from Goddard supplemented with various boyfriends, girlfriends, friends from the stream, friends from class, and assorted “orphans” from less social floors and dorms. It was a great year, socially and academically. She often commented on how convenient it was to have Starbucks downstairs and Bobst, Kimmel and Silver literally across the street. You just can’t beat Goddard’s location.

You are not grouped by stream on each floor. That was explorations and possibly the first year of res college, but no more.

umm, what’s a stream?
