Going to orientation without parents ?

No, it won’t look weird. While most kids will have at least one parent with them, there are always some whose parents are unable or unwilling to attend. You might want to look around for a solo student and try to strike up conversation so you have somebody to hang with during the breaks and when walking from one site to the other (HUB to classroom bldg.) After the introductory sessions (essentially, Welcome to Penn State, Expectations, etc) they break out students, who go for a more academically oriented session, from parents, who get information about finances, housing, security, how not to be helicopter parents, etc. Be sure to pick up copies of whatever handouts they have for parents so you aren’t expected to answer all your parents’ questions - You’ll have enough to remember and think about with your own stuff. I hope your parents are familiar with University Park and State College, otherwise they are missing a great opportunity to get to know your amazing home for the next four years or so.
