@juillet Unfortunately I am having a different problem now. My English grade moved up form an A- to an A due to good essay writing.
But my history grades are borderline B+/A-. The problem is this year is much more memorisation than ever before and less analysis. I am in AP world history and most of the class funds it easy. I do not. I think I got a B+ last year on English due to the insane amounts of memorization required.
My math (AP Calculus) and physics (AP Physics C) are still at 98 and 99, respectively. Class average is 82 and 86, respectively. In my school of you are good at math you are good at history more than science. For me it is the other way around.
I’m just worried now that no college will be a good fit for me, due to the divide between math/physics/chemistry and history/English.
I just got accepted to the CMU governors school for the sciences (acceptance rate = 13%) but am questioning myself if I really deserved it, as my GPA is bad, even when compared to others who were rejected.
I think you are worrying too much about your grades. Your grades are fine (actually very good!) and you definitely deserve it. You are taking rigorous courses (AP Physics, AP World History etc.) so of course, your grades aren’t always going to be A+.
College admissions is a holistic process. They look at you OVERALL as a student. You have good grades, good rigor, great SAT’s, great Subject tests etc. I really feel like you’re feeding into the CC-ism of feeling degenerate because you’re not perfect. You don’t have an A+ or a 2400. The bottom line is nobody does. It’s a very small percentage of people that have those types of stats and even though it seems like everyone on here has that, it’s because CC consists of a very minuscule percentage of the college bound population.
@TheDidactic Hello, I’m back and have an update: I am starting to get a solid A in English (somehow) but my SAT Reading practice test scores are going back to the low 600s after studying. On one recent practice test I only got a 2180 which was a (600R, 800M, 780W, 12E). So I am giving up on the SAT for good.
I have one big question: When will teachers finally realize that it is much easier to memorize 5 AP Physics Equations per chapter (week) to apply than it is to memorize a 500 page novel in 1 week?
Thanks for the update. Congrats on the A in English, keep it up! Sorry to hear the SAT CR scores are going down again. You are probably making the right decision though…
LOL memorizing a novel? Eegh sounds rough. I’m currently in over my head with Don Quixote but nothing too terrifying yet.
“Do you know what college is the best fit for a student good at Math but bad at English?”
All but the most selective schools will be happy to see a student with your stats. If you want help figuring out where to apply, you’ll need to give us a lot more info about your financial picture, what you plan to study, what kinds/sizes/characteristics of schools appeal to you most.
I would stay away from LACs, lots of writing. That doesn’t mean you don’t get writing at a non-LAC but for some kids intense writing might not be their cup of tea. That said my kid who is strong in Math and weak in writing despite the SAT test scores did very well in the sophomore writing class. She managed to pull an A. As far as my kid is concerned, all the non Computer Science classes were pretty easy to get good grades, provided that she puts in the effort.
