Are those stats for CS?
@sybylla no those are just for general admission so they include all students, pretty sure CS average SAT scores would higher.
Average SAT scores for Comp Sci Majors
RIT 1330-1480 for CS students (source RIT web page)
Case Western - could not locate score specific to CS
DePaul is actually test optional now but interestingly Comp Sci isn’t listed under their “most popular programs”
UDel couldn’t find any specific to comp sci but their Honors Program is between 1380-1475 SAT (source UDel web page)
Arizona State

GMU

The fact that Computer Science isn’t listed as one of the most popular majors at DePaul is very misleading. DePaul’s school of Computer Science, called the College of Computing and Digital Media (CDM) consists of numerous undergrad majors broken up into the School of Cinematic Arts (Animation, Film and Television), School of Computing (Computer Science, Information Systems, CyberSecurity, Data Science, Networking Engineering, Comp Sci and Math, Cyber-Physical Engineering, Game Programming, and Information Technology ), and School of Design (Game Design, Graphic Design, UI Design). Taken as a whole, the percentage of students graduating out of CDM was somewhere between 11% to 13% of all graduates in 2017, and has close to 3,000 out of the 13,000 or so undergraduates currently. It is one of the larger Computing colleges in the nation in terms of attendees for both undergrad and grad students.
@ProfessorPlum168 that’s good to know, DePaul might be a great fit for this student.
@3scoutsmom yeah it’s always been that DePaul catered to the student with SAT between 1150-1300 or ACT between 23-30. With the exception of the Strobel Honors school for Accounting which has really top notched students in it. I didn’t really like it when they dropped the test requirement. My guess is that the average scores got lowered a bit. Anyhow, the CDM school is really good for the student who wants a wide variety of CS choices since they do have so many to choose from.
I second DePaul as a target school. @ProfessorPlum168 DePaul’s VP Enrollment is a noted non-supporter of standardized test scores, who always makes good points whether one agrees with him or not. Additionally, he has a very interesting blog where he does deep data dives into college admissions statistics. Google his name and ‘higher ed data stories’, some really great stuff for those of us who believe everything can be analyzed
Thank you for the recommendations. I see that DePaul is a Catholic school. Are religious classes a requirement?
@marsey should be 2 religion classes that you need to take.
One of the most chill and funniest professors I ever had was from my first religion class at DePaul. Very thought provoking class. Just in case you thought religion classes was like going to Sunday school or to a revival.
Does anyone have thoughts on Purdue, in general; and for CS, specifically? Thank you.
https://www.cs.purdue.edu/undergraduate/codo-requirements.html indicates that CS at Purdue is a more competitive major and requires high grades in prerequisites if you enroll without having direct admission to the CS major.
When my S was considering CS programs (2 yrs ago) he investigated Purdue and thought their curriculum was great, We later visited the camps and it too seemed just fine.
If you are looking at CS at Purdue please look at this thread, looks like a great program but I think it is more competitive than you think, they only accept 350 kids a year.

IMO you are likely to find the best available balance of net price and quality at an in-state public university.
How big a price premium are you willing to pay for snow?
