I know that in my college days, many of the guys on the dorm floor grew sensimillia with great success.

It even gave some of the fellows a “cash crop,” so to speak.

SPATHIPHYLLUM or Peace Lily

I got a nice one about two and a half feet tall from Ikea for about seven dollars (my room is big, so I have space for it). I water it a little every week and make sure that the blinds in my room are open during the day so it gets sun. Other than that, no other maintenance. It’s beautiful and I’m told keeps the air clean.

This is what it looks like http://www.proflowers.com/prodimg/PRMsympath8_2_l.jpg

marijuana (10 chars)

Ficus polyethylenus is good.

I take it back - it’s a peace lily (see post 22) that I have in the darkest corner of my dining room. I’ve killed many plants, but this is one that will not die. It gets no light. I forget to water it, and it droops, but perks right back up when I water it. It’s very forgiving and it has pretty leaves.

I second the bamboo and the jade plant and would like to add bromiliad to the list. The live on air/humidity and take no care.

Another caution (not neccessarily intended for the OP) large potted plants can become substitute urinals after a night of partying and ammonia kills plants. If the plant is going to the room of someone who may have a drunk guy spending the night, keep the pot off the floor. Ewwww I know but ask the men in your life and I’l bet some of them have a story like this.

I don’t know if you’ve heard of it, but I love this one called Sensitive plant, so-called because when you touch it, the leaves curl up.

Check out the wikipedia entry here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sensitive_plant

It’s great fun to have in your room to show to friends, and it’s almost companionable, imo. The only downside is that it needs at least SOME direct sunlight and tends to prefer moderate climates. If you live in Florida or Canada it’s prolly not a great choice unless you keep your room climate pretty constant.

I agree, anything low-maintenance that doesn’t grow too big. Preferrably something useful, but something pretty is also nice. :]

Thanks for all the tips!

SonOfBhaal- I’ve seen that plant before, but I always thought it was a weed.
