Here’s my stats:

3.83 Unweighted GPA all CP classes, my mom said if i maintain this GPA it wont matter about rigor and i might take 2-4 AP classes senior year.

Brookwood Highschool 2nd best school in GA UGA’s #2 feeder school

Class Rank 62/872

EC’s Roller Hockey
Ice Hockey
Trying to get GPA to 3.85 incase i take APs so my gpa will stay at least 3.82 before i graduate

Havent taken ACT or SAT yet

Thanks

UGA looks at GPA, Rigor and Test Scores. While your GPA is right at the average, they will look at rigor and Test Scores. When are you planning to take the ACT or SAT? Sooner rather than later so that you can re-take should you need a higher score.

You should also push for a higher GPA.
If you are looking at EA, they will only look at test scores, GPA and rigor. RD is when they take ECs into account. So depending on what your scores are, if you want them to look at the whole picture, you would apply RD.

gamom what do you think would be better though a 3.87 unweighted with all cp classes or a 3.8 unweighted with like 3 aps

what are cp classes?

IIRC at orientation they said this year’s incoming freshman class had an average of 5-7 AP classes.

college prep - regular classes

You need to show rigor with AP or honors classes. A 3.8 with regular classes is not going to mean much in terms of admissions when you are going up against students with 3.8+ with mostly honors and AP.

Hello Hopeful Dawg,

I think you and your mom need to get on the UGA admissions blog. Degraves does a great job of spelling out exactly what you need to do to have the best chance at getting in to UGA. I think rigor is very important to the process. They do not compare you to the average number of AP classes, but look at the number you were able to take at your school. If your school offers 15 AP’s and you take 2-3 they will not consider that you challenged yourself. They also look to see if you took AP’s in a variety of subjects.

I don’t think that you GPA is that low, but I would be very concerned that you haven’t taken any AP or honors courses. Your post doesn’t say what grade you will be entering next year, but I would really consider trying to take at least one AP if you will be in 10th and 2 AP’s if you are going into 11th. Also sign up to take the ACT or the SAT soon. Hopefully you will get the scores you need on the first time, but if not it gives you time to study and take the one you liked best again.

I wish you the best of luck in whatever you decide to do, but please look at the blog it was a great source of guidence for us this past year.

Dont go to georgia it sucks, apply to tech

moneyonmymind: Is this how you start your CC account: by ■■■■■■■■ unnecessarily? Also, why the heck would you recommend someone who plans on taking 3 AP courses apply and/or attend Tech? It would be ill-advised for them to even apply to UGA if their school offers plent of APs.

GPA means nothing without rigor to back it up. An A in on-level chemistry/history/etc is worthless to be honest, especially at a public school. Trying to go to a decent college without even taking a single honors class is like trying to play division 1 baseball after playing in fall rec leagues in high school.

You NEED to do at least 3-4 AP’s senior year to have a decent chance. Right now, if you get a less than stellar SAT/ACT score (sub 1900) you have a low chance of getting in.

Dusterbug I forgot to add like half of my classes i took so far were at a private school which only offered regular classes and i went back to public school. Im taking honors junior year then taking 3-4 AP’s like you said senior year. If i had a 3.8 unweighted 3-4 APs, 2 honors, what Sat/ACT would i need to get.

Wouldn’t a person w/maybe a high 18 get in because the average SAT of a UGA freshman (not those admitted, but those who typically yield) is like a 1250 or something, this is unless they take the admissions folks writing seriously. Either way, I could agree that 1900+ is ideal.

https://www.admissions.uga.edu/article/first-year-class-profile.html

Oh, HopefulDawg. 1250-1300 sounds like a good number for a reasonable chance, Anything beyond that would be really solid, but still no guarantee. Make sure that UGA isn’t the only place you apply even if your a match, maybe apply to some safeties and a reach (provided UGA isn’t your reach. I say a reach because if get a really solid score, it gets tricky. Lots of schools, do yield protecting to some degree, unless you qualify for honors that is.).
Also, is there room for 1 AP junior year? You know, that way you get a taste so you aren’t surprised when you take 3-4 senior year. I personally did like 3 junior year and then 5-6 (I think it was 6, I think the 6th was calc. which I didn’t get credit for b/c I got a 3
. I try to forget that one lol) senior, thus it was not much of an adjustment.

Bernie my match is UGA, Reach is Tech, safeties probly Auburn and Alabama. They offer only 1 AP junior and the AP us teacher is awful so im passing. Junior: Honors physics, Honors Us history and honors american lit. Senior: Latin II honors, AP macro, AP lit and composition, and AP phy, and possibly AP stat. So basicly 3-4 AP’s and 4 honors.

Also if i got a 4.0 both semesters of junior year i would have a 3.9 unweighted and if i got 1 b i would have a 3.87 unweighted. If this happens should i apply early action even tho i will have a light rigorous load or stick with reg decision

Probably wait until regular decision. Also, Tech may be tricky b/c they may wanna see AP Calc of some sort, and AP Biol or Chem wouldn’t help either. Either way, if you wanna go to UGA, those courses are more than reasonable I supposed. This is of course assuming you are going for science/engineering major (moreso engineering than science) at Tech. Tech=reaching safety lol.

are you going to apply for the class of 2017?
