@ucbalumnus no i plan to pursue an MBA in the future. Basically, I want to work in the business sector in whichever country it may be, and I’ve read that both BBA and MBA is kinda redundant, and an undergrad in law or economics etc., would diversify my skill range and add to my resume. So far I’ve read, it seems BA Econ. is the way forward, but I’m still not so sure about BBA in econ. and Bsc Econ career prospects.
In short, yes. However, my family has advised me to apply nonetheless, and consider the net cost when the acceptance(or God forbid rejection) letters come around in deciding which college to attend.
^ OK, then cost IS a factor.
That being the case, you may want to re-think some of the schools on your list (up front, before applying).
For instance, for your situation Penn State appears to be ~20% less expensive than Michigan or schools in the University of California system. Wisconsin or Minnesota would be even cheaper. For what it’s worth, US News ranks both Wisconsin’s and Minnesota’s economics departments in the top 15. That’s a graduate program ranking, but probably indicates high faculty quality.
I.e. they are setting you up for the possibility of a financial shut-out – all of your acceptances are to schools that are too expensive. Ask them for the price limit so that you can make a list of schools that are likely to fall within the price limit.
@tk21769 @ucbalumnus You’re quite possibly right…I suppose my parents want to be supportive of my higher education so I guess they try not to make much of the cost, though obviously at the end of the day cost does matter. I will indeed look into more affordable schools, maybe in Wisconsin but my family wants me to remain in areas better known to foreigners, like Penn,NY, NJ, Boston area in the east, Chicago etc in the Mid-west and California in the West. If you could be so kind as to take the trouble of recommending some, I’d really be grateful. Thanks!
Show your parents the cost of attendance web pages of the various schools on your list (e.g. http://www.nyu.edu/content/dam/nyu/financialAid/documents/tuitiongeneral.pdf ). A reply that they will pay the amount with no parental loans and no household financial squeeze will tell you a different message than stunned silence.
@ucbalumnus dude…thanks a MEGATON
