For closed toe - Merrell waterproofs are great! They get me through the long wet slushy winters up here, and are comfortable for all that walking you are going to do around campus as well as hiking if you are into that, check out the REI outlet site and other show sites, and some may be on sale about now…they do have fancier waterproof boots, but they are pricey…

It is not unusual to see young adults in rainboots and my D has two friends who go to Sonoma State, who asked my D where she got hers because they didn’t want to spend a fortune. These are boots to wear when it is really raining, and that does happen. I also went on tours of several east coast schools during spring break and saw several tour guides in rainboots.

If you get short boots, your pants get wet.

My D and her friends are of the opinion, as are lots of college girls that sometimes wearing something that may not be uber fashionable, but works to keep you dry and is inexpensive is well worth it.

so if you get a pair of inexpensive rainboots, don’t feel people will go, ew, look rainboots, if its damp and rainy, they will go, gee wish I had some rainboots

Just ask my Ds friends when you meet them at Sonoma!!!

This doesn’t have to be this hunting trip for the best shoes…I say get one pair of 20dollar boots, and after our spring downpours, who knows when it will rain

Sent an email to a student I know who is attending Sonama State from SoCal. Here’s her answer:

I just wear regular ol’ shoes during the winter here. The worst the weather gets is rain but that varies (last year there was a lot but this year has been nice). So, maybe some rain boots if that person feels it’s necessary. I’ve never had them but to each their own I guess.

MARINMOM- CHECK YOUR PM’s

HISGRACE- Uggs are great but every style runs differently. Try ebay for Sperry rain shoes and boots (run a bit big) and also Merrell which have the nice lining like Uggs for warmth and you can get clog style or low boots. They run a bit small. Good luck!!!

I think you will want the Uggs. They are expensive but I know depending on the style and height can be less then 200 dollars. I think my D bought a pair for 120 at Nordstrom’s. If you can wait I would see if Costco has their fake version in the fall. The boots they had this past winter looked exactly like the real thing. My D resisted but after getting them D and her friends all started wearing the Costco version and you could not tell the difference at all except for the label. I have had other knock off versions that were not as comfortable and didn’t last as long.
My girls live in Uggs, rainbows and converse.
I think the Costco version was only 30 bucks

Ditto for Costco uggs - they lasted a long time for my D. Just spray them with the special suede spray, and they will last even longer. A local Costco near us has a rack full of very colorful rainboots for $25 or so, you might want to check yours. If you have big feet (size 9 and above), brand-name Uggs in those sizes sometimes do not sell out and go on sale at upscale stores in February. D’s pair came down to cost $60 or so after all of those “50% off of 50% off stuff” at a local fancy shoe store.
