Google BOLD Internship 2020

Great to hear.

That’s weird, I only I got a generic thanks for applying to google email, nothing else. Did your email include information about the internship?

I have some background in being founding team member of a a start up that generates 7-8 figures now. But that’s about all. Hmm.

The email did not say much else about the internship except that they were contacting qualified candidates on a rolling basis until next April.
The supplemental form let me choose what areas I was interested in and what locations I would intern at.
From what I gather, they first weed out from the general pool of applicants and qualified candidates get the supplemental. From there, you are visible to recruiters for specific departments and if they like what they see they will contact you for an interview.
What department are you wanting to intern for?

Thanks for telling us more about what the email said! I’ll just continue waiting to see if I made it through the weeding process. I am wanting to intern for both People Operations and the Sales team

Thanks all for the info, I really appreciate hearing where everyone is at. I applied in August and I’m still waiting on the supplemental. I’m going to apply for Communications, People Ops and likely Sales. Last year, I applied for some separate google internships (not BOLD) and got the supplemental form both times - each one came at very different times, so we just have to stay patient. One of my packets came immediately the next day and one came about three weeks after. They’ll come!

Since you’re applying to Comm as well, have you noticed that not many people talk about the positions available in this department? I hear a TON about Marketing, but very little about Comm. I wonder what interns in this department work on. I suppose I don’t hear much about People Ops either, and I selected that department as well.

If you look at the thread for last year, people were receiving supplementals up until January I believe, so don’t worry!

Also, is there anyone else who attends a less “prestigious” school? I go to a state school and I don’t believe anyone else from here has interned at Google. I wonder how much of a factor this is.

Yes, omg. I’m so glad someone else has noticed this. I’ve been trying to do research on this forever and haven’t found a whole lot.

And I actually just got an email that my transcript didn’t upload correctly (from my end) so I just resent it. My recommender said now that that’s been uploaded I should get my supplemental soon. ??

I attend the University of Michigan. (Go Blue!) I’ve seen a lot of people get acceptance from non”prestigious” schools. Especially in the immersion program.

Right?! I realize it’s not the most popular program but I have searched everywhere and I can’t find any students talking about their experience in Comm at Google. I saw one who was a Mass Comm major/ PR minor and she said she did Marketing. I thought it was interesting that the information about the initial application grouped Marketing and Comm together.

I’m glad you got the transcript issue sorted, I bet you’ll get the supplemental this week!

Thanks for sharing, glad you know of people who come from smaller schools that did the internship.

What type of internships did you do? Non-technical?

I’m a Poli Sci major, but I ultimately plan to do Product Management. I would really enjoy any of the positions, but from a strategic standpoint, I think the marketing team would be pretty sweet. You can probably get into the APMM position afterwards.

Fingers crossed.

Allllll non-tech, hahaha. I have a Science, Technology, and Society minor so I can have some STEM knowledge though. My internships have largely been in communications but also some local government, and HR. I’m a huge student government nerd so I can appreciate a poli sci guy!

Haha, we’re on the same boat. Would you be able to tell me which positions?

Ah nice! I like both student government and Poli Sci. I chose to major in Hospitality Management, but then recently switched to HR management!

I wouldn’t mind HR, definitely would like to try. But, I know that I get bored with repetitive things, which is why I would like to try a career as a PM.

Anyone else here back?

Just got my supplemental!

My advice to all of you is that while you wait, pursue all other opportunities. One of my D’s mentors did Google BOLD and is working there full time now. She’s told me that it’s a great opportunity for those without better opportunities and should not be the only option pursued. The positions tend to be dead-ends and the smart employees leave after 1-2 years, leveraging the Google brand on their resume to something better with more opportunities for advancement. And if something great comes along while you’re waiting for a Google BOLD decision, take it. Sometimes students don’t hear until late spring semester. Most of the best opportunities are long gone by then.

Good luck!

I want my supplemental! ?

Congrats!!!

Same!

Exactly. The only reason I would like this is to build my resume and use it as a jumping stone. I’ve applied to about 30 positions so far at different companies, and I have it lucky as I live in the SF Bay Area. There’s just so many technical positions, and not enough non-technical at these big corps.

Rejected. Best of luck everyone!
