Underneath all of this, maybe you are feeling a little disappointed about graduation. I think that’s a fairly common reaction and very understandable. High school graduation and a lot of other life transitional markers are hugely hyped up in our culture and couldn’t possibly live up to the emotional freight that gets heaped on them. Many of the students I know are finding these few weeks a big letdown.

Right now, you’re in limbo. College will start soon. That may be an anxious time at first but then you’ll probably settle into it and find things are very exciting.

Share those good times with your family by calling them and IMing them from school next year. They may be feeling a little numb, anxious for you, and empty right now. I’m betting that you’ll hear the pride and the pleasure when you call home in the fall and share with them your next great adventure.

Congratulations on your graduation. Happy trails.

if YOU are disappointed don’t place too much emphasis on such trivial recognitions. High school is irrelevant. It means absolutely nothing.
As of the moment it is over, all such rankings are reset and most colleges
don’t use such rankings.

Really.

Accept it.
Get over it.
It means NOTHING.
No one cares or remembers who was an honors grad / who sat on a stage.

Set your sights on achieving in college. That is where you will get the pay dirt.

At my niece’s graduation last night, the top 5% is listed in the program, then the next 5%. She happened to be first one after the top 5%…oh well! Someone has to be.

We were wondering how many future happy millionaires were sitting lost in the back rows…some, for sure.
