No, no outside organizations will give out purely need-based aid. Only the government and the colleges themselves do that.
Money from other entities will always have a merit component.

This is not true. As I mention upthread, I am familiar with a local organization that provides grants/scholarships (whatever word you want to use) to college students based solely on financial need. The application process involves submitting a FAFSA and a one page form. The amount of money that the typical student gets is not huge, especially when viewed in the context of today’s higher education costs, but for lots of students every bit helps and the aid provided by this organization can for some students mean the difference between going to college or having to defer the pursuit of a college degree.
I have to believe that this particular organization is not the only one of its kind in the entire country.
@BelknapPoint Yes, there may be a few organizations out there like that. However, the number is likely quite small & their help is likely limited to the nearby area.
In the grand scheme of things, nothing to rely on.
This is probably correct, but it’s important to clarify that your post #20 is not accurate.
Well, that depends. Plenty of students in my area depend on the organization that I have referenced. Who knows how many similar organizations are out there. Your words might dissuade a student from even looking for such an opportunity, which could be a big mistake.
Checking for clarity. You are looking for someone to award you grants based on your financial need…is that correct?
The FAFSA determines your eligibility for federally funded grant money like Pell. Some schools use the FAFSA EFC to award SEOG.
In addition, some schools award their institutional grant money based on the FAFSA…or the Profile.
What else are you looking for?? Since you have made it clear you don’t really want to apply for anything…
Horatio Alger scholarship is for low income students that have a GPA of 3 I believe and have overcome adversity.
There are scholarships based on financial need…BUT you do have to APPLY for, them which will, entail, some work on your part…
Are you willing to put in the time to applynformadmy complete thenapplicatiosnformthese awards? If not, you won’t be getting them.
“However, BelknapPoint I am not looking to apply for scholarship competitions and the like. I just want to see if there are outside organizations that are willing to award people money based on their financial needs. This is outside the real m of FAFSA and state programs.”
Not really. Outside competitions are all fiercely competitive, and I don’t know of any that are based solely on financial need.
“There are the industrial giants like Coke and Ford but they require FAFSA and mountains of paperwork A lot of them restrict it to URM (underrepresented American minority students), National Merit winners, or to being the child of an employee.”
No. Coke is solely merit based, and does NOT require the FAFSA. Or any financial data, at all.
