Great December Vacation Spots in the Sun?

Take a look at the Palace resorts. Its been several years, but we had a great time at these. And you can travel between them and use their facilities [Palace Resort | Palace Resorts | Mexico](http://www.palaceresorts.com/)

We have all the family home this weekend and hopefully will zoom in shortly. From what I can tell from the online sites, they are all pretty amazing. We may end up drawing numbers from a hat and I’ll include JYM’s suggestion too!

I’ve been following this thread for a long time without posting.

My H refuses to consider Mexico right now.

He has mentioned Puerto Rico…any information or suggestions?

I know I have posted on Puerto Rico before but I don’t remember what thread. I love PR. It is easy to go to, you don’t need a passport, they use dollars and the highway system is the same as ours except for being in metric. Food is good and the weather is lovely. There are rain forests on the one side of the island and it is dry and arid on the other side. Old San Juan is a fun, historic city with sidewalk cafes that reminded us of Europe.

Bah! Believe it or not I haven’t booked my vacation yet, but I’m minutes away from deciding. After much conversation online and off, it will be Cozumel or Cancun; will draw straws tonight and book!

I’ve enjoyed reading all the responses. I agree with your husband, boysx3, when it comes to Mexico. A lot of great places have been mentioned here, and most of them are far superior to Puerto Rico.

We stayed at the Condado Hotel in PR, and it was awesome. It is right in the perfect spot on a very busy strip with loads of restaurants, boutiques, and beaches. There are several pools, hot tubs, and a small beach right on the property. The rooms are beautiful. I might also suggest St. Maarten. It is so amazing and there is a water taxi that takes you from spot to spot. Lots of boardwalks, restaurants, beaches, shopping. I believe there are a couple of all inclusives on the island, but also many of hotels with access to so much right at your fingertips!!
We are going to Europe for my graduation gift, and last family vacation. I would so love to return to St. Maarten one day, though. Hope you enjoy your vacation!!!

Miami. 84 degrees today and sunny. Just bring a toothbrush and cash, and you can have a great vacation.

We spent the week between Christmas and New Year’s in St. Thomas several years ago. We wanted to go to Hawaii with the kids, but the travel agent pointed out that for the cost of airfare to Hawaii for 4, we could do the whole trip to St. Thomas. Kids were 15 and 8. We flew there and got a non-descript hotel near the airport and rented a car. We were able to visit all the beaches on the island, went snorkeling, did a lot of sightseeing, and enjoyed the warm weather. We hit a grocery store on Christmas morning and bought a rotisserie chicken and some other things, found a beautiful beach, and spent the day there. Cruise ships were still coming in every day, so businesses and shops were open.

you should visit hawaii.it’s sick man

Hi Brave, yes, agree that Hawaii is great, but we are on the east coast so it would use up 2+ days of vacation to get there and we decided not this time.

We did decide to do a Mexican all-inclusive (Iberostar Cancun). We found a fast set of flights through JetBlue that get us there by 2pm the same day we leave, so we’ll have more time on the beach and less time in airports. Our college-age kids are thrilled, and that’s our family Christmas present. We told them when they were home for Thanksgiving and we all decided that we’re only supposed to do small stocking stuffer kinds of presents this year, so that will be different.

Now to start my pre-vacation get-in-shape-for-January-swimsuit workouts … yikes!
