Greek life at Hopkins can be the most rewarding or devastating endeavor you may experience as an undergraduate. The superficiality of rush brings out the worst in people, both for the guys and the girls. My advice, though, is that if you decide to rush–choose the fraternity or sorority where you feel most comfortable and not what is “hot” or “cool.” I know that can be difficult based on the stereotypes you hear around campus, but when it comes right down to it, no one really gives a **** if you’re hot in the ugly sorority–you’re still hot. Or worse yet, you could be “the ugly girl” in the hot sorority. Pick your poison.

If you make your choice based on what everyone else wants, you will end up extremely disappointed because not only will hate the people in your sorority/fraternity (even if they are “cool” by everyone else’s standards), you will regret not choosing the group with whom you felt most comfortable and could have actually formed substantial friendships. Each group has its pros and cons, and that being said, as a female involved in greek life, here’s my two cents:

Phi Mu - some really attractive girls, but the overwhelming *****iness from some of the girls is a turn off for a lot of people

Kappa - sweet, down to earth girls; last two pledge classes were decent looks-wise

Alpha Phi - pretty attractive on the whole, becoming a bit more edgy; they seem to care a lot about who is “the best” on campus

Pi Phi - quirky and sweet; they are new so…yeah

Incoming freshmen: PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do not listen to what “people say” because usually, people are often misinformed. MEET PEOPLE in greek life–go to events, ask questions–and determine who you see yourself calling a brother/sister.
