Yeah, I lift her chin up, put pressure on the sides of her jaw, her little mouth pops open, I drop the pill down to the back of her mouth, close her mouth, massage her neck, then using a syringe, I squirt some water in, and down it goes. D2 struggles with her, and the pill gets spit back time after time. So I’m just doing it for now.
Healthy Kitty’s spay incision got infected and we had to have surgery to repair it. She is now laying beside me with a cone on her sweet little head, pitiful yet purring sweetly. The past few hours she has been by my side constantly, after the stress of being at the animal hospital. I am somewhat familiar, I’m warm and soft, and so she clings to me. I went downstairs for a few minutes, and she jumped the baby gate, crying with pain and fear, looking for me. She cried loudly, and I heard her from downstairs. Even with a back injury, I found myself racing up the stairs, only to find her wandering about, sobbing in her kitty way. OMG, I’m such a softie.
I am sorry to hear your kitty had to get surgery.
Hope she is going to be ok soon.
( Why oh why do some shelters and vets insist on spaying kittens when they are still so tiny? Does no one any good!)
Yeah, the vet said she wasn’t going to say she was too young, but admitted she would have waited a bit. She also said it wasn’t really closed properly.
UPDATE:
D2 is happily ensconced in grad school, in her cute apartment (she has a fantastic decorating sense and I love what she’s done with her place), and both kittens seemed to have adjusted to the new digs very well. After keeping them separated for so long because of illness and parasites , D2 was worried about how they’d react to each other. They had a week of jockying for dominance, and all has been settled. They cuddle together a lot, play fight, groom each other, and compete for D2’s attention. All health issues have finally resolved-no more cones, no more nasty parasites, no more infected incisions, no more twice a day meds, yay!
D2 is a gourmet cook, and invited several of her female cohorts to her apartment for a dinner party. Kittens got a whole lot of attention, and by the end of the evening, were sleeping in the arms of D2’s guests, limp as rag dolls, with sweet dreamy smiles on their cute little faces, according to D. All the guests are, like D2, in this new town not knowing anyone, so they apparently appreciated a delicious home cooked meal and good company. And some good wine, games, conversation, and best of all, kittens!
What a lovely update @Nrdsb4! Thank you for sharing it.
Yay for all! Trust me, those kittens will help her with the school - they are great stress relief.
