^that’s wonderful!

I sincerely hope your son enjoys his time on the hill. His time here will fly by. I still can’t believe my time has come to an end…

Thank you Dr_Mom! I might be frequenting this board in time.

(2012 gt)

Thanks Dr. Mom! We’re gonna miss you! Please make sure to stop in every once in awhile. Congratulations! I’m happy you can finally breathe easier.

Thank you, dewdrop87, askfjkl1, and grantortue! I’ll pop by every now and again to lend a hand, if it might be at all helpful from a parent’s perspective, but I’ll try to allow future conversations to grow on their own without my heavy foot in here as much as I can. I will answer any private messages I get (I just got one that brought me by here now)–a notice that you have one shows up in your email, so that serves as a reminder to stop by.

BTW: The paperwork for the GT is nothing compared to the paperwork once you finally get that acceptance letter. My S got a whole booklet full of FORMS to fill out a few days ago! Ha. But it’s a good thing. He’s on his way now–just requested the housing refund at his former college (which was definitely scarier for me than it was for him)! It’s also a pleasure to finally be able to say that he’s a sophomore at Cornell, majoring in X. So much simpler than going through that whole GT long explanation thing, as I know all you GTs know!
Also, I wanted to let the board know that there are GTs who have frequented this board who have been accepted but have not wished to report it on the board. They have let me know through PM.

Enjoy your summers, everyone!

There is so much conflicting information regarding the GT option. Some say that you need to basically re-apply as a transfer student with rec’s and essays as well as maintain a certain grade point average and other posters say all one has to provide is a 3.0 GPA at an accredited college. Which is it? And when do you find out officially if you have a spot?
If the former is the case I don’t see what’s so great about a GT.
It seems like many of the rejected got this option. Might it not be better to be waitlisted?

It depends on your college. For instance for CALS, you needed to take all of Cornell’s equivalent courses, pull off at least a B or B+ and get an overall of a 3.5 GPA. You need profs to sign a GT form which is basically confirmation that the grade that you got was indeed what you wrote down since you submit a mid-semester transcript during your semester. So the profs basically say what your current GPA is at that point in time. As long as you get the grades that Cornell wants, took their classes, and fulfilled any other special college req, if any, (depending on college), then you are officially in. It may just be a tad scary to go up to profs and be like I want to transfer, esp if you are not doing so hot in the course. It is stressful due to deadlines such as FAFSA and the PROFILE. Otherwise it is what it is, a GUARANTEE.

Know anything about the specific requirements for Hum Ec?

I believe the curriculum load is lighter than for CALS, but mainly get a 3.5 GPA.

Could any GT to CALS (Bio) post what classes he had to take and what gpa to maintain for the GT requirements?

writing and english, calc I and II, bio I and II with lab, gen chem I and II with lab.

there is usually how many GT students r there for each of the contract colleges?

there is usually how many GT students r there for each of the contract colleges?

I would really like to know what are the specific subjects we need to to do freshman year to fulfill the GT requirements for Humec Ec Apparel Design- anybody out there know?

Do transfer and guarenteed transfer students get their own dorms? Or do they room with freshmen?

I can tell you human ecology takes ~150 per year.

I am a GT in HumEc and rec’d my letter/package today…very nice letter. I need to maintain a 3.3 overall and take Calc, Bio1, Chem1, Stats…A’s & B’s only!
Had to fill out acceptance offer and return fax. In early Fall I need to complete the GT App, Part 1, supply college transcpt, essay telling about my recent exp’s regarding my major, Xtra currs/work, midterm grades in progress. If grades are there, you will be accepted.
I hope this helps.
Have a great week everyone!!
:)

Does anyone know how easy it is to transfer into HumEc with a transfer option?
(Ie., Was completing the requirements difficult to do? And has the transition to Cornell been easy?)

“Do transfer and guarenteed transfer students get their own dorms? Or do they room with freshmen?”

I was a GT— I don’t know of anyone who got placed on North with the freshman. Most were placed in the new West campus dorms; some at Cascadilla or Sheldon. You do NOT want to be put in Sheldon, aka, “the Transfer Center.” Everyone I knew who got placed there absolutely hated it; it’s really far from campus and very separated.

I just read this conversation. Your GT was in CALS. I got rejected but then I received a similar letter. My major is biological sciences tho. Is it likely that I would be able to transfer even though it says on their website that biological science majors are not guaranteed?

So were any of you conflicted about taking the GT option? Isn’t it difficult to leave a school to which you have become acclimated? I am a parent and I admire those of you who are mature enough to just pick up and leave a school and transfer after having made friends and maybe gotten to really like the school you are currently attending.
