Retrohippo! I actually would agree at that from a glance, but I actually only took 1 non ‘hardest’ level class in all of my high school career. Thanks for the input :)!

Non-legacy Yalies in my school had basically the same schedule as me!

What’s up with all these language classes you’re taking?

HobbitTon, what do you mean? Why am I taking them? How am I doing in them? :)

Why are you taking them?

I am very interested in music and foreign languages!

My question is, why portugese?

I think if you answer that well on your app then you have a shot.

The honest story was, I had a crush on a girl that I erroneously thought spoke Portuguese. I quickly picked up a phrasebook in an attempt to impress her and was amazed at what I saw: a Romance language unlike others, with an incredible sound to it, and an amazing history that nearly no one knows about. As I began to talk with more and more Portuguese speakers in this oft-neglected tongue, I really just felt happier than I ever have before, and have learned Portuguese more efficiently and successfully than anything else in my life. It just fit for me–the mundane and unsexy Portuguese language caught my eye, it’s just a language perfectly suited for someone who values detail and craft like myself! That’s the answer in a nutshell! I think every essay I wrote would in some way mention my love for Portuguese.

I just feel that even though you love languages, sticking to one language would be enough. I feel that you could have picked your classes better.

Tuink the only thing about Portuguese that would impress Yale is if you went to Brazil and volunteer in the favelas.

Duly noted HobbitTon
I can’t do much about that now, and will be taking the most rigorous schedule my school offers next year (and more or less have taken it my whole time in High School.) Regardless, I appreciate your input, and hope that it won’t be too big of an issue.

Looks like you’d have a chance but it truly is a crapshot so dont get your heart too set on yale…to put it into perspective our valedictorian this year had over a 100.5 gpa (we do it on the 100pt scale) was an intel semifinalist who did amazing research at one of the best facilities in the country and volunteered at a hospital among other things was flat out rejected…im not trying to be a downer but to put it into perspectice he was admitted to harvard that same day, so basically you never know what they want that day of seeing your app… just make sure that your essays make up for where gpa may be lacking, and make your application MEMORABLE! I wish you the best of luck!
