Gurantor for Apartment

To Lizard- that would help equilibrium price and quantity, as any microeconomist knows! Well done!

The important thing for our kids was to have a LL & fellow tenants they trusted. That led to a great year or a challenging year. The one year S & D each had that was tough was when a tenant DID leave in the middle of the year & caused some damage that was blamed on the remaining tenants, of course. They had to split the damage fee with the remaining tenants.

S had the most difficult time with a LL that had a management firm that handled a LOT of apartment buildings and didn’t really seem to care much that the heating system &A/C in their apt was ancient and making S ill. Fortunately, he was only in that building for one year.

Each tenant involved must figure out what terms they can live with. For my kids, all tenants always paid their share so no one ever got “stuck.” I imagine it COULD get sticky & expensive though.

If you are really unhappy with the terms, you can try talking with the LL & seeing if there is any room for negotiation or find another place.

Some landlords will accept your financial aid package (including loans) as suitable income to support the rent. It never hurts to ask.
