GWC Internship @ Iowa State 2013

I’m almost positive that I selected the HIV researcher as my first choice. However, I ended up with a mentor in the department of agronomy who works with statistics and crop scientists. He wasn’t even on the list of possible mentors. I believe they matched me with him because I said in my first short response that I plan to major in bio and minor in math.

As for not getting accepted because of your residence, that isn’t entirely true. I’m from New Jersey.

Regarding research for this summer, I would suggest that you not be too picky. I’m looking to go into molecular bio, but I ended up with an internship dealing with agronomy. My point is that at this stage of the game, any internship at all is going to be difficult to secure, and you are therefore going to have to settle. I highly doubt that any professors are going to take you as an intern just from receiving an unsolicited email from a high school student (you are in high school, yes?). If you would like, there are other science-related internships that are still available. They are not biology specific, and much less related to cancer or immunology. I nevertheless applied because I figured I wanted something. Let me know if these prospects interest you and I will can send/post information.
