Halloween

T or T is two hours here - 6 to 8, so it’s done now. I can assure you that many were not actually from nearby. We live on a boulevard and there were actually a couple of cars parked in the boulevard at 5:55pm ready to go.

I really think it’s the most I’ve had. We live in an older established neighborhood. You could def go the whole night just going up and down a couple of streets (they are long-ish).

At least we hardly have any leftovers!

LOL!! Ditto here!! if you also add in the almond joy wrappers (I ate those). DH and I shared the snickers!

We gave out a couple hundred, too. Maybe that’s why I get testy if we’re running out cuz the grownups aren’t grown up.

No one yet, but it’s not quite dark here. I sent my son out to buy the candy (I want nothing to do with candy this year! I’m trying to lose weight and it keeps finding me!)–apparently my son is as much of a Halloween curmudgeon as I am… He came back with the candy and said “okay, now we can do our bit to contribute to childhood obesity.”

I’m just hoping to get the leftovers out of the house tomorrow morning and off to the office.

Usually we get 150+ . Tonight, it started to rain/sleet  at around 7:30. So now we’ve got WAAAAAYYYY too many leftovers.

6:55 pm here, and as of now only 2 trick-or-treaters! A while ago I saw a bunch running down the opposite side of the street but so far they haven’t arrived on my doorstep. I love seeing the little ones and I’ll be so sad if more don’t show up.

Vassar really outdid themselves this year! Count the acorns!

College D just texted that she and her friends just returned from trick or treating in the neighborhood around her school (including the president of the university’s house). I asked if anyone seemed annoyed because they were so old, but she said “Shouldn’t they expect it, after all they live next to a university?” So, I guess she was well received and now reports that she’s got chocolate for the rest of the semester. I was glad to report that she did not wear the “trampy” Moulin Rouge outfit that she wore to the university parties last night - she decided to put together a more “family friendly” costume for the neighborhood.

We didn’t get nearly as many as I was ready for. About 40 here, but we have at least 3x that still. What was I thinking? Oh yeah… my kids are in college now. When they were in HS (just last year), our house was the central spot, where they all started and stopped. And, last year’s H was on a Saturday and probably warmer.

This year, my college freshman was a Tele-tubby. He enjoys having fun, but I think the party was last night. He’s studying for a chem test tonight.

At 4:00 PM I heard my door bell rang. I looked thru the peep hole and saw a 7 or 8 year old boy. I wondered why this boy went trick or treat too early. I opened the door and he asked me to buy a bag of candies from him so that he could have the money to go to a sport camp next summer. The mom stood on the sidewalk to wait for my answer. Nice try on the halloween day.

We live out of the edge of town, so I volunteered to be the trick or treat lady at our very small town library. We ran a kids movie in the children’s room, a Goosebumps movie on the outside wall of the building and we handed out glow sticks and duplicate books from our book sale bins. We had lots of kids and they all said thank you, although little boy annouced in a very loud and cheerful voice, “Thank You and Merry Christmas!”

I love Halloween and I don’t care how old the kids are who ring my bell. The little kids are adorable and the older kids are having a great time. Every year we buy the full size candy bars, but sadly in the past two to three years the holiday is disapearing in my neighborhood. Our doorbell rang only a few times.

I bought the same 150-count mixed chocolate bag from Costco that Snowball bought. I supplemented it with a large bag of Twizzlers and we still had to run out at 7pm and buy more. We gave out over 240 pieces and ran out at 7:45, having to close-up early. Nice weather, yard decorations, and lots of kids from other neighborhoods were factors.

Lost count, but at least 200 kids. Largest group was 25 middle schoolers. I gave out full sized candy to the older kids and it was declared that I was "awesome"Many, many first timers in their exhausted parents arms. BEAUTIFUL night.

We had a much smaller turnout than expected, about 30 vs. 50 or 60 in recent years. No idea why. I make up goody bags with a variety of candy and little party-type toys (yeah, I’m bit obsessed), so lots of wasted effort this year.

We had an awesome night…2 moms, sitting on the front porch, Moscow Mules in hand, good munchies, great conversation. Add to that a fun bunch of kids knocking on our door and how can it be anything but FUN!

Two award winning groups came by…the first was 2 or 3 middle school girls dressed as “Valley Girls”, complete with hot pink wigs, bangle bracelets and lacey, fingerless gloves…we had fun OMG-ing with them, and for this former 80’s girl and Valley resident, it was TOO FUN!

Second place went to 3 high school senior girls dressed as nerds. They were so sweet. They were out for one last night of childhood…today marks the beginning of their application season for college and their moms encouraged them to have one last go at trick or treating. My kids stopped trick or treating long before that age, but these girls were so darn polite and sweet, it made me wish my kids had held on to a bit of their childhood as long.

Of course the wee ones were precious…but they always are. :-)

We didn’t get as many as in previous years, but it was still fun. My favorite costumes were an adorable little pirate, and a very sheepish teenager who went as a “chick magnet” (red magnet with fuzzy yellow chicks stuck to it). His attitude is what made the costume for me. I love seeing the teenagers, who can be counted on for laughs. One neighborhood boy told me that this was his last year, as he’s a h.s. senior. I got a little choked up, remembering his costumes through the years. My elderly next door neighbor enjoys the kids too, and we always compare notes the next day.

Welcome to CC ! I am honored to have your first post !Fauxmaven
