D texted and woke me up at 11:30pm with a link to a YouTube video that someone had just posted – a recording of Act 1 with the original cast, from a front row mezzanine seat. Figured it would be taken down soon, so I stayed up and watched it. Now it’s past 1AM, I’m so tired… But it was worth it, and I’m so glad she sent it to me quickly because I just tried to link it here for y’all and it’s already removed from YouTube… But keep a close eye on this, because I bet Act 2 will be posted soon…
Got in the virtual line for the Amex pre-sale for SF Hamilton tix this morning right as it started at 10…Was #45645 in line. Their system was quite orderly. You could have them email you when it was your turn in the queue. Sadly, I just got the message that “the line has ended.”…No tix for me. I’ll try again next Monday when regular tickets go on sale, but think that chances are even slimmer then.
You can tell it is popular, the parodies are abounding out there…one of the funniest I have seen is a group called Eclipse6 on you tube, called “Hamildolph”, that is basically the music of hamilton with the story of Rudolph the Red Nosed reindeer, it is hysterical (and all a capella, these guys are good).
I just discovered the parody musicprnt mentioned above and it’s brilliant! Required holiday viewing for all Hamilton fans.
Here’s the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M7sm49fHlyI
I saw it last week and posted it to my FB Hamilfans…wasn’t sure I could do it here!
I got my ticketttttttttttttt!!!
I just almost posted here a half hour ago, then got caught up in something else. They just announced today that Wayne Brady is joining the Chicago cast starting Jan. 17th as Burr, through April 9 (which would have been an excellent birthday present for me, but alas, our next tickets aren’t until July).
On a side note, the guy who interrupted the Chicago production back in November with a drunken rant, pled guilty today. But you should see the excuses his lawyer was claiming for why he did it. Blah, blah, blah.

My daughters and I are Hamiltonians, and I’ve been looking all fall for three tickets for a weekend while my D1 is home on winter break. On New Year’s Eve I had a “duh” moment and realized we could go to a weeknight performance – in Chicago, which is only two hours away – and began checking those nights as well. The three of us are going this Thursday, and we can’t wait!
The price is fairly stratospheric, but DH and I have always believed that experiences trump “stuff” as gifts. This musical will be D1’s birthday present and D2’s graduation gift. They couldn’t be happier about it.
I thought I wouldn’t get to see Hamilton for YEARS. This past weekend, I was in NYC as my kids organized a get together for me to celebrate a big birthday there. Shockingly, they gave me a ticket to see Hamilton on Saturday! I was in the 4th row. It was an incredible show.
My kids need to step up their game.
D and I have Wednesday matinee tickets in Chicago in March during her spring break. And, thanks again to the CC folks who clued me in 2 days before the second set of tickets went on sale.
Okay, I’m late to the Hamilton lovefest – but I finally got the soundtrack for Christmas and now I’m obsessed! I love the wittiness and intelligence of the lyrics, the allusions to (and echoes of) other musicals and plays, and the themes of fame, family, and fortune.
And yes, I love the music, rap/hip-hop and all.
So now I’m determined to see in live. I am thinking about Chicago in May, maybe combining it with a wedding-dress-shopping expedition with my D (!) I’ve been looking at the ticket availability and price, and lordy, they’re expensive (available…but expensive.)
Is there some secret way to get less expensive tickets, or do I just suck it up and use my retirement money to buy them? (Just kidding about the retirement money, but still…) And for those that have seen it in Chicago, are there any parts of the theater to avoid? I don’t want to mortgage the house to buy tickets with a terrible view!
@scout59 I hope you are able to get tickets! Here is a chart that was helpful to us when we purchased our tickets. FWIW, if you can get tickets at face value, I would take obstructed view over not seeing it at all. Good luck!
I’m going to see the Chicago show in June. The way I got great orchestra tickets for an uninflated price was to sign up for the mailing list last summer on the show’s website and then know when the next block would become available. We bought out June tickets last September at the opening bell for that block of spring - summer tickets. I’m afraid that won’t work for you @scout59, but maybe it will for others who aren’t in a hurry. Have fun with your wedding dress expedition:)
Thanks @HalfMoon22 and @2VU0609 !
That link in HalfMoon’s post is really helpful. I think it’s interesting that some orchestra/dress circle tickets are much worse, sight-line-wise, than others. That’s the kind of information I can really use!
I guess it could be worse. My brother is seeing Hamilton in New York in June, and it looks like his tickets will be twice the price of mine.
We’ve seen it both in NYC and Chicago… tickets bought on Ticketmaster within minutes that they were released. They were both within a couple of rows of each other from the stage, but premium tickets. The price difference was negligible (less than $20). Not sure why your brother is paying so much more.
^^ Maybe because you bought them early, teriwitt? Right now, looking on Ticketmaster for June seats, the tickets for NYC (in the orchestra section) are about $350 more per seat than the Chicago orchestra seats. Looks like seats in the mezzanine are pretty comparable in price between the two cities…
And of course, these are prices now, not the prices available at the release. I’ve never really understood the Ticketmaster pricing system.
My guess is the prices you are seeing on Ticketmaster are resale prices so that would be market driven. Do look on stub hob, too, which is a resale service (also owned by ticketmaster I believe).
The NYC venue is smaller than the one in Chicago - 1315 seats vs 1800, so that plus more NYC tourists could definitely cause a pricing difference in the secondary market.
Yes, Ticketmaster services a secondary market now, so those increased prices your brother is paying, are tickets that were likely purchased within the first couple of days of a new block that was released and some of those are now being resold through Ticketmaster. Some of them may be people (like us) who were able to get tickets on two different dates (both D and I were on our computer/smart phone at the same time they released the block), but only needed one - difference is, we sold ours to our neighbors (face value) as opposed to going back to Ticketmaster and listing them through there.
People who really, really want to see Hamilton - there are always tickets available… for the right price. You may be buying them through Ticketmaster’s website, but they are resales that people are trying to get rid of (or make money on). For people who want to pay face value, you really need to be on Ticketmaster’s website the minute they release a new block of tickets (usually several months worth). I haven’t taken note, but my guess is that a new block is released about three times a year. So you have to know when those are coming up and be at the computer (or use the Ticketmaster app on your smart phone).
Should have typed stubhub.com above.
We’ve bought tickets twice at face value. Both times, it was because we are on the mailing list, received notification, and were able to hop on it right away. (maybe the only advantage to spending too much time online )
