Handbag suggestions?

LOL oldfort! How is any handbag worth that amount of money??? I just don’t get it.

PS to OP – thanks a bunch! I wasn’t even thinking of handbags, and now I am. The hunt is on!

Ladies - since we are talking about handbags, check this out:
[Linmar Treasures Gift Shop](http://www.linmartreasures.com/-strse-Handbag-Hooks/Categories.bok?OVRAW=handbag%20restaurant%20holder&OVKEY=handbag%20holder&OVMTC=advanced&OVADID=34267014522&OVKWID=152792934022&ysmwa=9Aytmzx2ML-iTrSJ5pcl3K7KSJB5bbCMFpE0gCvVIZAGPHAHL4pkSsqiNNjUKm0m)

It’ll keep your bag off the floor when you are dining out.

oldfort - it is probably a good idea, but I think it disrupts the progress we are making with the dressing young thread!

hmm, I gotta get back to that thread.

I just looked at Marc by Marc Jacobs bags on Zappos (this is the best site to look at - they have 7 photos of each item, including good views of the interior). The bags are horribly expensive, and one that I clicked on was not only huge, but it was lined with a black fabric with enormous white “marc jacobs” all over the place!

Still looking. Fossil has some nice styles.

Who would pay over $17k for a bag???

Clearly no one sending kids to college!

That Tano bag looks like a fake to me. Or else a REALLY old style.

I poked around that Hermes site for a few minutes and found a black crocodile bag for – are you ready for this?? – $45,000. Who would spend more on a handbag than on a car?? (or a year at college?)

I love handbags! Tano bags are really nicely designed but sometimes their leather is not the best quality. They can be hard to clean — I have one that I love that is a pearl metallic leather, although not that shiny, more opalescent, and I could never clean it. My H says I look like a real hobo with it.

NYmom, if you are in NYC, this place is having a big sale this week I think (or next week, can’t remember exact dates): [Tusk: Handbags](http://www.tusk.com/womens/handbags.php)
They are in Manhattan. The last page has handbags. Their stuff is really beautiful, and their wallets are gorgeous. They have all kinds of styles, so worth a look.

This is my all time favorite standby bag (I’m one of those with multiple handbags for different occasions):
[Shoes, handbags, apparel: Your insider’s guide to shoes, apparel, handbags and more | Piperlime](http://piperlime.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=46055&vid=1&pid=740083&scid=740083002)

It is made by Sabina NY, and comes in a multiple colors and is the best designed bag I have ever used. It is so easy to organize and retrieve your stuff with this bag, and I like the size–not to big, not too small.

I am really enjoying reading this thread, but I’ve got to say, many of you have WAY higher purse budgets than I could ever dream of! I’m pretty happy to get my Relic purse 50% off at Kohl’s or a under $40 deal at TJ’s enjoy for a year or so and move on to the next one!

Anyone like me and still like to have a “backpack” purse for everyday wear or when grocery shopping etc? I’m talking a nice leather or leather look one, not large - but something that allows me to not have to always have it on my shoulder.

The other thing I always look for in a purse is a compartment that allows me to file my gift cards easily - we have the Script program (rebates on tuition when buying gift cards) at my youngest child’s school so I’m always toting gift cards for everything from restaurants to the coffee shop to Target.

I L-O-V-E handbags. I also used to be a Coach fanatic, but I also no longer like the styles. I bought a Michael Kors bag last year at the outlet store (there’s one in flemington, NJ and of course Woodbury Commons in NY state (ahhh - shoppers paradise to me). I never like to buy things full price, so for years I would go to the Coach outlet, and have a hard time deciding. This year I got a Cole Hahn bag at the outlet. I feel so happy when I get 20 or 25% off!

I joke with my husband that when I die, I want a coffin covered in the Louis Vuitton monogram material. Of course it will have to be custom made, and of course I would have to buy it in advance to make sure that I have it. (This is a joke, really, but the thought cracks me up somehow.) I say its important to go in style.

I know someone else who bought her daughter a break up handbag. She said the bag is a classic and will last long after the guy has been replaced.

abasket, I’m like you. I have very specific likes and dislikes and size/strap/organizer requirements for my purses, but I can usually find what I want at a department store for way under $100.

My current purse is one of those AmeriBag Healthy Back Bags in black leather trimmed in cognac. It’s pretty comfortable and doesn’t make my back and shoulder hurt like other purses do.

re: backpack style bags
I’ve never had one because I’m concerned that it would be pretty easy for someone to open it, take my wallet, and run before I noticed and turned around. Any opinions?

I never felt that way - it hugs close to your back and I always had a zip one - of course, it wouldn’t be impossible, but they’d have to be right on top of you!

Plus, even when I have one, I don’t wear it that way all the time - but it was hugely convenient when I’m grocery shopping etc. and want to have use of both hands to be more efficient.

I’ll have to rethink this!

Have also owned Coach for many, may years. None w/ the logo. I have recently bought a B. Makowski bag. The leather is so soft and supple.

Who would pay $17-43k for a bag. Obviously, if $1000 to you is the same as $100 to another vs $10 to another, your expenditures will reflect this. I imagine, to a billionaire or even multi-millionaire, $17k for anything isn’t a problem financially.

anothermom2 - here is a backpack for you.

http://i3.iofferphoto.com/img/wantad/499/031/louis_vuitton_goodbaby_60.jpg</a></p>

I think after I make the last tuition payment for D2 (6 years from now)…Oh, all the possibilities.

How do you tell a LV ripe off from a fake from afar?

morrismm, I bought a Makowski last winter. I love it and it is wearing very well. I bought mine at TJMaxx at what seemed to be half the price as what was being charged on various internet sites. Frankly, I never heard of this bag until another shopper told me what a good buy it was and how QVC was selling them for double the amount that I paid. I am very pleased with quality and yes, the leather is soft.

morrismm - if it’s a good fake you can’t even tell the difference. If I really like a bag I would buy 2, a real one and a fake one. I held up 2 LV bags for my friend to look at, it wasn’t until she looked inside that she could tell the difference. A real one’s inside is a lot more detailed. A good fake would cost around 20%-30% of a real one, and you would need to go to someone you know to get a good fake. Someone I used to know claimed she could get me a Birkin that an Hermes store wouldn’t even be able to tell the difference.
