cartera45 - D1 is going to need a boy toy. Don’t assume too much.:)

I agree with you oldfort - that is something the guy who assumes he will be doing the supporting is missing out on - the chance to be a boy toy.

^^ or maybe she knows how to buy at bargain prices ;)

I haven’t read all the posts so I have no idea if it’s come up… How about NO handbag?

I wear clothes with pockets, keep extras of all the essentials (advil, tissues, etc) in my car, and NEVER carry a purse. I stopped for a while because I had shoulder pain, and I never went back after that.

I do, however, have a beautiful collection of leather dog collars for my dogs.

^^^ I can’t imagine not carrying a purse!

I have been known to carry a very small Vera Wang type purse with a long strap that I can throw over my neck and shoulder when I am out somewhere where I need a few things, but don’t want to carry a purse - especially in the summer at festivals, parks, etc.

I was a master at figuring out a way not to carry a purse when I was in school. I hated keeping up with them because we were always dancing. I can remember pinning keys onto my clothes and putting money in my shoes when I wore clothes with no pockets. On occasion, I would be with a guy who would assume I could put his stuff - keys, wallet - in my purse - oops.

I have similar shoulder issues. Sometimes I carry very very small organizer bag/wallet - Brighton is good with that. There is a little 4 x 5" organizer wallet I manage to put pen, lipstick, tissues, cell phone, keys (2) into, plus money & cc. Sometimes I just carry a backpack. I was a queen of backpacks up to 4 years ago, stopped and now back to backpacks because of shoulder pain.

pageturner: That is the song! Thank you for bringing back memories. I do remember hearing it earlier than that so, either I’m senile or the artists were getting ripped off and decided to do something about it.

I carry my keys and my old, ratty-looking cell phone in my pockets, and the bag holds just my checkbooks and my wallet. I prefer small bags because of shoulder problems as well. Although I live in a very safe city, I would never carry anything small and valuable in a backpack. I do not see a problem with a $100 wallet - my wallets last 10+ years. That saves me from the aggravation of looking for a good $10 wallet (the one that fits my needs) every year.

BB - I am with you on avoiding the aggravation of looking for another wallet. A couple of years ago my DD picked out a beautiful Brighton wallet for DH to give me as a present. It is just lovely, but I think it was made for European bills, because it is a little short when I put my bills in it. I hate to replace it because she was so proud of herself and it is in perfect shape (thus showing me the wisdom of buying a quality product), but it is a nuisance because I have to fold the bills. You are all making it difficult for me to resist purchasing a new wallet. I love the picture of the one MoWC posted and I also have seen ones made by Hobo that I like. Hmmmm, what to do?

Zappos is wonderful. I placed an order late last night, and the package arrived by 3 today.

The Lodis wallet that I linked to before is a real thing of beauty. It’s beautifully made, and worth every penny of the $93 that it cost. The outside is a lovely caramel color and the inside is a rich, dark red. There are about 16 credit card/ID slots, two zippered pockets, at least two other pockets, and a place for a checkbook. It’s perfect for me.

As I was emptying my black Coach wallet, I realized how nice it still is. The leather is beautiful even after at least 4 years of hard use. A wire escaped from the frame recently, and the zipper jammed, but other than that it is still fine.

I’m less happy with the Fossil bag. I ordered it in both black and cognac (planning to return one). I would have preferred the black, but I didn’t like the way it looked with the white contrast stitching. So I’m keeping the cognac. The bag is very nicely made for the price ($128), a nice size, and the pockets/organization are great. But it’s not exactly what I wanted. However, what I want does not exist at this moment in time!

Thank you all for the suggestions!

NYMom - maybe CC can start a swap meet thread. You swap your gently used Coach wallet for a Ninja Turtle backpack - or something else.

Yup, that’s my story every single time I go to look for a new bag. (BTW, I’m a New England native, and grew up saying pocketbook.) My current bag is also a Fossil, the Blackburn Cross Body. It’s pretty good, but not perfect.

^^^Pocketbook! I forgot about that!

LOL- I still often say pocketbook. Usually say purse, but frequently say pocketbook. I also call a shopping cart a “buggy” because thats what an au pair called it many years ago, and now thats what my kids call it. Older s got funny looks from his roommates when he said that.

Anyone have suggestions for a reasonably priced leather wallet with tons and tons of compartments for credit cards, insurance cards and such? I don’t like to carry my checkbook in my wallet, but I do carry a lot of other cards, membership cards, Starbucks, Borders books etc. Also have a lot of things hanging from my key ring too…

The Fossil Blackburn looks like a nice bag. I like a small crossbody when I travel. I also find it great when I am in the mood for some power shopping. It keeps my hands free but is not so bulky that you feel it.
I like some of the fossil products. They make nice looking bags for a reasonable price that don’t look cheap. Has anyone seen the Fossil Sutter bag. It has lots of pockets. My friend and I both looked at it and could not decide if we liked it. We both decided it was not quite right and came to the conclusion that it looked like those bags advertised in the sunday paper with a place for everything.
I need a new wallet. I am using a small black 5 yr old coach wallet. I hate the fact that the change section is in the middle of the wallet. It is impossible to get to. If I need coins I find I have to upzip the coin section and turn the wallet over and shake. I like the looks of the Lodi wallet and also the Tano wallet. My problem is I often carry a small crossbody bag and I think those wallets are probably too large for a small flat style purse.
I call it a purse,my Mom and MIL both from NY call it a pocketbook. My sister who sells high end purses tells me the correct term is handbag.

I can’t believe that we haven’t been seeing ads pop up for handbags in this thread!

My problem is I often carry a small crossbody bag and I think those wallets are probably too large for a small flat style purse.

thats why I usually use a synthetic small wallet. I don’t carry change- I mostly use my debit card & don’t carry all my cards with me- I have an application on my ipod touch that holds a lot of info if I need it- and while some of my bags have dedicated pockets for id and cards-- I don’t always have time to swap them out.

I think leather wallets are attractive, but way too bulky.
The things I carry every day are my license, ( my auto ins stays in car), my medical ins card, debit card , ipod, phone & a moleskin small pad and pen, folding hairbrush/mirror & korres lip butter.
oh and my keys.
which are on a carabiner so that I can clip them where I can keep track of them.

Furla makes quality handbag. This one seem kind of nice even though it is sold out.

Not sure if you could see it if you are not a member. It’s a small Furla bag.

mom60 – Agree with the comments about the Fossil Sutter. I’m not a fan of all the outside pockets. My other major complaint about a lot of bags is it’s too hard to get things, like a wallet, in and out because it doesn’t open up enough.

As for wallets – I’m currently using a Fossil Blackburn Checkbook Clutch. Believe it or not, it’s just a coincidence that my wallet and bag match. A big gripe I have with wallets is it’s too hard to get paper money in and out. Can you tell I hate being the person in the checkout line at the grocery store holding everyone up because it takes so long to deal with the money??? Anyway, I don’t carry a checkbook with me, so that wasn’t the selling point on the wallet. I like that the zip coin pocket is on the outside, the currency is easy to get out, and it holds a lot of credit/store loyalty cards. No, it’s not super flat, but it works.
